New Letter from Michelle Giacalone of GalacticonEvents.com

Michelle Giacalone has just published a new letter for GalacticonEvents.com: "Calling all science fiction fans! My name is Michelle Giacalone, and I am the coordinator's assistant for Galacticon, the 25th Anniversary convention to celebrate the long and often interesting history of the hit Sci-Fi show, Battlestar Galactica! We are setting up a 'Links' page on our website, Battlestargalactica.com. So far, we have averaged about 50,000 hits per month, so having a link from our site to yours will be a great way to promote science fiction in general, and your site specifically. What we are asking in return is a reciprocal link on your page, optimally in the form of a banner (can be downloaded at GalacticonEvents.com), until the actual convention on October 24th. Your link on our site, however, will remain up for the lifetime of the site, which, if this year is successful (which you can help it be!) will be continuously to prepare for next year's con. Why are we doing this? Galacticon isn't just about us, or about Battlestar Galactica- it is about the possible future of science fiction on television- whether the networks, producers, and executives will take science fiction fandom seriously as the source of their viewership, ratings, and income. The upcoming convention will give us an excellent chance to prove to the Sci-Fi Channel, the media, and the world that their audiences- fans- do have opinions, do have a voice in how to ensure success for their properties, and should be taken seriously! If we can get this message across here, it will help us pave the way for groups like the Farscape fandom, or any others who wish to make their opinions known on the type of quality science fiction programming we want to see! We want our site to be representative of Sci-Fi fandom of all types. Any help above and beyond a reciprocal link will be hugely appreciated, of course. If you plan to attend the convention, and would like to apply for a fan table for your group as well, great! Contact me as soon as possible, since fan tables are limited. We can also arrange for flyers and promotional materials to be displayed for those who cannot attend. I will also be arranging an informal meeting at Dragoncon this year, so let me know if you can attend. This will be a good time to give me any flyers you may want put out at Galacticon. Thank you, and I hope to hear from you soon! Michelle Giacalone, Coordinator's Assistant, Galacticonevents Inc., volunteers@galacticonevents.com, 520.399.3343, www.galacticonevents.com." Thanks to Michelle for the report, and for more information, be sure to visit GalacticonEvents.com!

Battlestar Galactica 2.0 Purists Be Warned in TV Guide

New report from Calvin at the Battlestar Galactica Discussion List: "Just perusing through this weeks TVGUIDE and found a one page ad for the Battlestar Galactica miniseries. I have re-typed the text below: 'BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2.0 Purists be warned: Sci Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica miniseries is definitely not the Galactica you remember. Fans of the cult '70s series will be most puzzled by the changes to macho pilot Starbuck, originally played by Dirk Benedict. In Sci Fi's incarnation, which premieres December 7, Starbuck is a woman (Katee Sackhoff) who shares what executive producer David Ickypoo calls a 'twisted and unique' history with fellow flyboy Apollo (Jamie Bamber). 'We felt that the swaggering, cocky pilot was a sort of cliché that had been done to death since Han Solo,' explains Ickypoo, who promises the pair won't have a clichéd romantic past. That's just as well; after all, in space no one can hear you pine. - Ethan Alter'" Thanks to Calvin for the report!
