JJ Abrams was a Star Wars fan before he even started doing Star Trek.
Also, consider that he will not have the full backing of Bad Robot Productions like he did in Star Trek. Likely he will have directorial input only, and not quite as wide a range of creative input as he did in Star Trek.

If it's any consolation, a vocal minority of hard core Trekkie fanboys/girls screamed (most impotently) about how JJ's Star Trek looked or felt too much like Star Wars.
