Sci Fi Names Galactica Leads

A new article was published at Sci Fi Wire (news service of the Sci Fi Channel). The article mentions that: "The Sci Fi Channel has cast the key roles of Starbuck and Apollo for its upcoming original miniseries Battlestar Galactica, based on the 1978-'80 TV series. Oregon native Katee Sackhoff (Halloween: Resurrection), 22, will play a female Starbuck in executive producer Ronald D. Moore's reimagination of the series, Sci Fi announced. Meanwhile, British actor Jamie Bamber (HBO's Band of Brothers), 29, will play Apollo. In the original series Starbuck was a male character played by Dirk Benedict, while Apollo was played by Richard Hatch. The four-hour Galactica miniseries, from Roswell and Star Trek: The Next Generation veteran Moore, is slated to debut later this year." Thanks to Charybdis for posting the initial report at the Sci-Fi Channel BBoard.

Is this really the Moore script?

Michael Faries commented on the Battlestar Galactica remake script that is floating around: "For the record: The Battlestar Galactica remake script which seems to be circulating around IS the remake script. It isn't a phony. It's nearly identical to the one I was provided back in November 2001, save what I received was .rtf format (Rich Text Format) and the script floating around is .doc (Microsoft Word format). And for the record, in case anyone's curious: I did not leak the script that's floating around. I am understandably curious who did -- and where they got it from. Lastly, do note that there have been changes made to the script since that copy was submitted. Some of the reviews and fan feedback led to changes. Sadly, not enough changes, imho. Either Richard Hatch's or Tom DeSanto's efforts would have been vastly preferred." The script was recently posted at the Sci-Fi Channel BBoard, then deleted a day later by BBoard staff. Update from Michael Faries

Michael Faries posted a new report at the Sci-Fi Channel BBoard, and mentioned that: "I don't have the figures in front of me, and I doubt anyone within the production would go public with specifics for verification. I understand from sources that the production started with under $10 million (U.S.). I've been told it's closer to $9 million; others say it's closer to $10 million. - There haven't been any cutbacks. - No money is being pulled from the production; rather: - Production costs versus available $$ are a problem. - The production simply doesn't have enough $$, imho, to deliver an incredible production design. (I imagine the producers, set designer, and others aren't too thrilled by the barebones budget either.) The production, from what I understand, is discovering that casting isn't coming as cheaply as hoped. And set designs and potential f/x are being augmented to defray potential costs." For the complete report and more information, be sure to visit the following link at the Sci-Fi BBoard.
