New Galactica Page at the Sci-Fi Channel
The Sci-Fi Channel has published a major update to their Battlestar Galactica web site. After the opening Cylon red-eye animation, there is a new mini-series logo and article entitled "Sci-Fi Readies Battlestar Galactica". The article mentions that: "SCI FI has signed director Michael Rymer (Queen of the Damned) and actors Jamie Bamber (HBO's Band of Brothers) and Katee Sackhoff (Halloween: Resurrection) for the new four-hour original miniseries Battlestar Galactica. Production begins in Vancouver in March. Battlestar Galactica will air exclusively on SCI FI in late 2003. The beloved Battlestar gets a modern twist when SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking series in which 'a ragtag fugitive fleet' of the last remnants of humanity searches for its true home. Fleeing the mechanoid Cylon race responsible for the slaughter of their human colonies, the Battlestar Galactica survivors must meet a new set of challenges in order to escape pursuers hell-bent on human extinction. This intriguing take on a classic creates an epic miniseries with action, adventure and family drama. British actor Bamber, 29, will play Apollo, a role originated in the classic TV series by Richard Hatch. Oregon native Sackhoff, 22, will play a female Starbuck; the character, a male in the series, was played by Dirk Benedict. (See the SCI FI Wire story.) Produced exclusively for SCI FI, Battlestar Galactica is written by Ronald D. Moore (Roswell, Mission: Impossible II, Star Trek: First Contact) with David Eick (American Gothic, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) and Moore serving as executive producers." Also on the updated web site is a letter from Ron Moore that some have entitled, "Ron Moore Gives Fandom The Finger". Thanks to Kingfish for posting the initial report at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums.

Sci-Fi Channel's Digitally Remastered Episodes
The Sci-Fi Channel recently broadcast a commercial regarding the Battlestar Galactica marathon taking place from Feb. 17 to Feb. 21. The commercial mentions that all of the Battlestar Galactica episodes have been digitally remastered. Battlestar Galactica fan LordStarFyre1 commented on this announcement with a note at the Sci-Fi Channel BBoard: "Okay, let's clear this up. When Sci-Fi claims this is Digitally Remastered, they are telling the truth. They aren't claiming that the EFX have been re-done. Galactica (as well as any other TV series from back then) was shot on film, then transferred to tape, via telecine. What they did for this is went back and re-transferred all the film originated material, as well as the audio tracks, and put it into a digital format (most likely done with the DVD releases in mind). Granted, it might have been nice if they went in and paint boxed the scratches, but what I've seen so far is substantially better quality than what's been released to date." Many thanks to LordStarFyre1 for posting the update at the Sci-Fi BBoard.
