What TV series do you like as well as or better than the Original Galactica?
 

For me, my #1 spot is reserved for Star Trek TOS, it's what I grew up with, and it simply has no equals IMO (the remastered version with the new FX is my personal choice).

My #2 spot is crammed equally with Battlestar Galactica, Firefly (you peeps heard of this one?), and Dark Angel.

But for sheer dynamic visual creativity Galactica has 'em all beat IMO!

Thoughts? Agreement? Laser fire?:D

Star Trek.

I'll admit as a kid it was a weird three-way tie between Galactica, Buck Rogers and Star Trek. Could say in terms of Buck I was influenced as you are as a kid. I still wish I could be Kirk or Buck or Starbuck.

there's a few non-sci-fi series I like but probably only Trek that tops BSG78.

Oh, I loved Kung Fu (even though the half-Chinese main character was played by someone SO not Chinese), but yeah, Only Trek tops BSG for me as well.
The only good thing about the re-imagined BSG was that Richard Hatch was in it, otherwise it was kind of felgercarb-y.:D

Space: 1999 (season one)

Out of all the "classic" sci fi series, Battlestar Galactica and Space: 1999 are the two that I watch at least annually. I do love the various Star Trek series over the years, but I OD'd on those years ago...

Other than Trek, which will probably be the most common answer, I say Space: Above and Beyond and Firefly.

The mention of Space: 1999 makes me think of an honourable mention for UFO. If not for the show, the theme, the idea we'd be driving jet powered cars in 1982, girls with pink wigs AND those mesh-top things the sub crew had to wear.

As a matter of fact, I love the character and I'm a big fan of Catherine Schell. It's just that Year 2 of Space:1999 hasn't aged very well - a fair bit of the writing is just awful. I have more fun watching episodes of Lost in Space...

For myself, Can I say all that I have watched?

I would have to really think long and hard on this. Generally
listing a favorite is like choosing between a wife or mother
which one you would save if they were hangin off a cliff
and could only save one.

Many I have yet to see from late 80's to early oo's due to Away from home 10/12ths of the year.

The rest is a blur. Am still trying to recall what was on and where to watch. Am currently watching sliders. Season 3- Never got to watch it also.

Jericho. I loved its numerous cast members and the way its story kept expanding. Its other resemblance to the original BG is its network history--the first season cancelled with a cliffhanger and then the complaints from fans convinced CBS to bring back a short second season. The main difference, obviously, is that the original cast came back and the show was able to tie up some, but not all, of its loose ends.

Non-sci fi is definitely Everwood.

As well as BG: Firefly and Dr. Who (esp. Drs. 10 & 11)

Like a lot, but mostly discovered via rerun & dvd: Farscape and B5

Current non scifi must watches: White Collar (because it's a buddy show mixed with a Thomas Crown sort of art thief/ladies man/con artist and it's proof that there is still a place for the real Starbuck on today's TV).
Burn Notice because I never know what Michael, Sam, Fiona, and Mike's Mom will do next and the writing is PRICELESS.

For me, that's easy: there is no other tv series ever that has come close for me than BSG. I don't know why, but I was so captivated by this show when I was a kid. I had all the toys, I watched every week, I bought the books, etc.

Since the very beginning, I have always stated that my favorite tv show was BSG and after 32 years, I can still say that!!

Oh, and to answer the thread... I love quite a few Sci-Fi shows... ST-OS, UFO, Babylon 5, Firefly.....

But there is one that rivals Galactica.

for me, at the time of TOS BSG first airing in AUS, there wasn't much i liked.
After reading every ones post here, i must have been a weird kid .... spent
more time reading arthur c clarke or being outside being a kid. than watching TV.
only thing i remember watching almost religiously was Battle of the planets, and
Thunderbirds, sometimes doctor who, but only if it was a tom baker one.

For me my most favorite show is Firefly/Serenity, with second place going to BSG, third to ST: Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5.

I'm also a Firefly fan, although, I actually first watched it years after it had been off the air. Great series. Great characterizations. Great stories.

I really enjoyed it. It stayed true to the series.

Loved how they closed the loop on River and the Reavers, uncovering the mystery of both. Also loved how Mal and Inara were still dancing around each other. I was a little disappointed that we never learned Book's background. I was also disappointed in losing Book and Wash. Especially Wash. That just seemed senseless, plot-wise.
