Colonial holidays
The following are the better-known of the Colonial holidays and holy days, and, if applicable, their Earth equivalents.
01/01 New Year’s Day January or February Tet 01/06 Twelfth Night (Epiphany) 02/02 Candlemas (Groundhog Day) 02/03 Feast of St. Blaise 02/13 Lupercalia April Ostara (Easter) 05/01 Beltaine/St. Walpurga’s Day (May Day) 05/05 Children’s Day May Whitsunday (Sunday after Pentecost) 06/24 Midsummer 08/01 Lammas/Lughnasadh 09/29 Michaelmas 10/31 Samhain (Halloween) 11/01 All Hallows (All Saints Day) 11/11 Armistice Day (Veterans Day) 12/17 Saturnalia/Yule (Christmas) I realize that, with the exception of Tet and Children's Day, the holidays are all European in origin. If you know of any others, please add them to the list. Your useless trivia for the day: Candlemas, Groundhog Day and Imbolc (which I didn't include) all partially celebrate the same thing, despite their different origins--it's the halfway point of winter in the Northern Hemisphere. |
