Battlestar Galactica: The Last Battlestar--

Stephen E. Dunlap (aka Martok2112) the author of "Battlestar Galactica: Dark Exodus" and "Battlestar Galactica: Reciprocity" brings you his own reinvention of two worlds gathered under one name.

The tale is "Battlestar Galactica: The Last Battlestar". It is another retelling of the epic struggle of humanity's flight across the stars from annihilation by a machine race bent on dominating the known universe.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

50 Yahren ago, the Hasari were a newly founded offshoot of the Cylon Alliance, having seceeded from the Alliance upon learning of their plans to begin purification of the universe.

The Cylons, eager to being their dominion, constructed the machines which would carry out their holy war against all those that defied Cylon dogma. Their first target were the Hasari. Early into the war, the machines, known as Centurions began to turn on their masters, cogitating that their organic masters were paradoxes of their own manifesto, and nearly annihilated that race. Now, only a few original Cylons remain, having been able to reign in
the Centurion armies, and redirect their cause.

The Hasari, constantly under the boot of the Cylon Alliance, secretly contacted their neighbors, the 12 Colonies of Humankind, offering tactical information regarding the Cylons in exchange for liberation from their oppressors. Reluctantly, the Humans intervened and liberated the Hasari, thus launching a war with the Cylons that would last 5 decira.

It is the dawn of the seventh millenium of mankind. The Colonies of Humankind had long since ended their own internal wars, be they holy, political, or corporate. During their own bloody campaigns, the 12 Colonies had created battlestars: powerful, gigantic warships which were originally meant as deterrents to any Colony willing to start conflict with their neighbors. Now, the 12 battlestars... Atlantia, Pegasus, Rycon, Columbia, Ares, Pacifica, Titania, Olympia, Hera, Praetoria, Argos, and Hercules... are united in their cause to protect not only the Colonies as a whole, but neighbors who seek their help. In addition to battlestars, the Colonies also have destroyers, lesser carriers, cruisers, and myriad fighters to defend the homeworlds. To see a force of battlestars, even two or three in the same task force would daunt even the staunchest of opponents.

The feudal system of government that once threatened to tear apart the Colonies now only exists in figure to preserve the ascendance of humankind as a powerful force in the universe. The House lineage is still in place...and commanders of battlestars were usually the heads of the greater houses in the Colonies. One such commander is Adama Vor Ibrimi U Adriana Per Caprica Kel Kobol, of the battlestar Pegasus. He has led his forces with distinction over the course of the war between man and Cylon, and becomes Vice Admiral of the Colonial fleet. His next assignment will be most choice.

Joining the mighty fleet of battlestars (many of which are nearly 100 yahren old) will be the Galactica...larger than any battlestar currently in existence, boasting state of the art firepower, and stealth technology. In a couple of sectars, the Galactica will be ready for trial runs and her shake down cruise. It is being constructed in a location known only to a couple of commanders, Adama being one of them.

Now, the Cylons want peace, thanks to the ambassadorial ministries of Count Baltar who was appointed by Colonial President Adar. An armistice is to be declared. Peace will be truly known throughout the galaxy for the first time in mankind's long, bloody history. Many are celebrating....some are cynical.

In a night of bloodshed unparallelled in the annals of human history, the Cylons betrayed the armistice, and launched the most devastating assault ever carried out, with the intent of annihilating the life form known as man. The Colonials were caught completely off guard, thanks to the blinding tactics of Count Baltar, who seeks to subjugate the Colonies under his rule, under the auspices of the Cylon Alliance. Baltar provided the Cylons with important tactical information which would undermine the Colonies best efforts to defend itself. 7 of the Colonies' battlestars were enroute to the rendezvous point, a remote spacestation located on the boundaries between human and Cylon space, and were swiftly destroyed by the massed Cylon war machine. It is feared that the other battlestars were destroyed as well.

Forced to withdraw with whatever forces he could muster after receiving sketchy reports of the fall of Pegasus at Molecay, Admiral Adama makes plans to unleash the last battlestar Galactica, still in drydock undergoing systems tests. The Colonies themselves are beyond reparation. But, as with any holocaust, there are always survivors. It is Adama's intent to rescue as many survivors as he can, and start on their long quest across the stars for a mythical planet known only in the Book of the Word as the lost 13th Tribe.....a planet called Earth.

During the rescue, Adama, commanding the untested Galactica, plans to make the Cylons pay for their treachery. How to deal with Count Baltar will be another matter.

Here is the link where you can find my new retelling.

Warning: This retelling uses elements from both the Glen A. Larson AND Ronald D. Moore versions of Battlestar Galactica, but I think you will find much to like. :)

Hello Mr. Martok, first registered and have started reading your 'Last Battlestar' story. I'm normally a writer/active fan of the new series, but pride myself on being deeply in touch with BSG's "roots". I really like how you've thrown the better aspects of both into a so-far excellent retelling of the flight of the Galactica. Looking forward to more.

Thanks, Gin Rummy. :)

It's been a long time since I've even touched the story, and I have it and Reciprocity to finish. (Reciprocity's been unfinished now for about 6+ years).
