Viper Jacket Pattern For Those Interested

Well, I'll stick this post one more place as I'm learning to navigate this site as more than just a reader.

I've got a Viper Pilot Jacket Pattern that myself and a friend created. Its a good pattern. I'm a seamstress and costumer. I like having things correct and I like being able to make them myself.

Our pattern was made by watching the show for every detail we could gleam and then making mockups until we got it the way we want it.

The pattern is free for anyone interested. I don't care if your a seamstress and want to make some money or an individual who is wanting to make their own jacket. I only ask that if you have a copy of this pattern, and someone else is looking for it, then give them a copy for FREE.

Promote Galactica by permitting those around us the best opportunity to get into uniforms.

We are also making a detailed photo set that will show how to put the jacket together in addition to written instructions. The photo set will be completed by the middle of April as we are in the process of making jackets for a con.

The mockup I have meets all of the Blackstar Squadron criteria for a viper jacket.

Let me know if you want a copy. Also, if there are several of you who get together, please, have one of you request a copy and then trace them off with your buddies. This will save me a lot of time tracing off patterns and on postage.

Thanks

Hey, great, Harn!!! I got an idea: can you take the pattern & post it here as a picture? Most creative folk I know could print it, and blow it up by eye on larger paper to use as an actual pattern for the material! I know that I could!
Whaddya think?:D

Ok, got the pictures of the pattern and I think you'll be able to read my notes on them. Can't figure out how to upload them on here. Anyone got directions. I'll email them to you directly too.

To load them here you have to use a free service like photobucket & upload them there first, then click on "direct link" (or something very close to that in the little box around your picture) then paste it here with [ img ] before it & [ /img ] after it. But- don't put spaces between the [ and other i &g, I just did that so it wouldn't disappear here.;)

Is that makin' sense?

This link is to my facebook page. I've made this part of my album public for anyone who wants to find the pattern layout there. Not sure if they will be high enough resolution so let me know. I'll see if my technical husband can get the photos loaded up on here.

This link should work to let you see the pattern even if your not on facebook, according to what they show at the bottom of the album. Let me know if it doesn't work.

You should be able to upload as attachments now that you have 5 posts :)

Go Advanced when replying. Below the text box you'll see the Manage Attachments area.

It doesn't show up on mine. I have the text box and the only stuff below it is post icons, submit and preview boxes, additional options none of which deal with attachments.

Harn, you rock! I got your patterns via email, and they look great. I can use them, definitely. The right cloth & buckles are the challenge. I already HAVE the right Colonial pins from a guy at a con some years back!
Thanks!:salute:

No. I get nothing under the text box. I can see the green arrow and wording under your paste. I get miscellaneous options and thread subscription

Your welcome Apollo. If you have any questions on how to put it together feel free to drop me an email. That link to the facebook page with the pattern pieces on it also has a lot of details that I'm putting there to somewhat talk you through making the jacket. Your supposed to be able to view that album without being a facebook member via that link.

Thanks- I have some sewing experience having made the colonial shirt, and also a Superman & Luke Skywalker costume. I even made a Colonial laser out of cardboard & acrylic paint once, to go with my costume. If I had only had the jacket back then.... frack!

Still doesn't come up. it adds an additional box that allows me to "rate the thread" but there is nothing about attachments.

HAHA, Thats half the fun of getting older is now, at least for me, I'm in a better position to do those things I've wanted too. Like getting these patterns done.

I'm intending to have a blast at the Con.

Okay, lets see. Here we go. The first photo is an uncomplete mockup in inexpensive material. It was what we used to make sure our pattern was doing what we want.

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...8&l=ca8d7b5b60

Here's that link to the facebook page, again you should be able to look at it without being a member. Its got a lot more details in it about what to do. Thought I would throw that in here right by the pattern pictures.

The Galactica Colonial Warrior Jacket is the ONE thing I've always wanted to make for myself, and I'm SURE my Son would love one also. This is a BIG step closer, and a journey we will definitely take now, thanks to you!

FYI

I put photos of the pattern pieces onto the Blackstar squadron site and they show up much larger there when you click on them. If you need a bigger photo to look at and have access to that site then this information may help you.

Re: Viper Jacket Pattern For Those Interested

Spread the joy you know :) And of course, the work...

Another thing I did on there was put reference measurements so you can size up the pattern from the photos. If you can't get on there and need that info let me know too. Easy to do.

Actually....(pulls out her tape measure and puts some reference measurements here too)

Back length, from highest point at shoulder to base 22 3/4 inches
Back width along adjust shoulders here line 9 3/4 inches

Shoulder cap length along center seam 11 inches

Large front piece along leading edge (where buckles go) 21 inches
Width along the adjust here line for this piece is 12 7/8 inches

Front shoulder small piece along bottom edge with cut out square 9 inches

Collar 19 inches long by 3 inches wide

Waist band 18 inches long by 6 inches wide

Right sleeve along longest edge with the "don't do" spot 19 1/2 inches

Left sleeve largest piece along the bottom (smallest) edge 14 3/4 inches

Hopefully this will help you blow this pattern up at home on your computer if you want too. Aim for those measurements to get your base pattern.

This pattern fits someone who has the following measurements:
18 inch shoulders, 44 inch bust, 40 inch waist

All seam allowances are 1/2 inch.

There we go.....
