I met Jane Seymour!

I found out on a Wednesday (April 26) on Jane's website that she would be appearing for a American Heart Association workshop in Cincinnati that Friday. She was going to give a dinner speech at noon. I figured they posted so late that there wouldn't be many sig hounds going. I drove four hours and got there about 10:30am. Jane shows up at 11:50am and starts mingling with the people outside of where it's going to happen. I wander over and introduce myself and told her that I drove all the way from West Virginia to see her. She said wow, like she had no idea how far that would be. I asked her to sign my poster, and she said I must be quite the collector. I said sure. She signs it and I ask her a few questions about the BSG series. She then goes into the luncheon.

I didn't get a photo with her, so I decided to wait until afterwards to see if I could catch her while she was coming out. During this time, they were setting up books and tables in the lobby. I asked, and found out that she was signing after the luncheon. You could buy her book for $25, or a series of notecards with her artwork for $15. I asked the lady if she was signing those for free, and she said she'd sign anything for free.

Well, since I bypassed her charity address because I didn't trust them, I bought 2 sets of notecards. I waited until the majority of people who paid big money to attend the workshop, then I asked her to sign 2 8x10's. She did notice I had bought the notecards, so maybe she would have said something if I didn't. Anyway, she inscribed both. I had a guy behind me in line and take a picture of us. The 4 hour drive home, I was very happy!

Here's the pics.

By the way, bonus points for anybody that noticed that the one photo I got signed shows the image that the artist used when making the movie poster.

Cool!!! She is one of the BSG stars I would LOVE to get to meet and get auto/pics of....

Great going... is she making any more appearances???

Dude, that's awesome. I didn't like it when they killed her off on TOS, but it was necessary so that Apollo could raise Boxy by himself. (Plus, her contract was only for a few episodes, yadda yadda, red tape and all :D )

So, is she as nice in real life as she seems to be?

Thanks for the kind words guys! I always worry that when I meet my heroes in real life who are so wonderful onscreen, that they turn out have ego's. But this was not true at all with Jane. She was so nice, sounded impressed when I told her how far I drove, and took the time to talk to anybody that listened. I had heard that she had a stalker from one of her websites, but she walked in by herself without any assistants or bodyguards.

I asked her how she got involved, and she said that Glen Larson approached her for the 3 hour movie. In it as most of you know, she is supposed to die of radiation poisioning.

But she said that she "tested" better than the other girls, so they talked her into doing the next 2 hour episodes.

She said she never wanted to do a series. I've heard rumors on the internet that she didn't want to do the series so she wouldn't be "labeled" scifi. I don't know if that's true or not. She may have just not wanted to do series television.

Another cool thing is remember in Saga when Laurette meets Starbuck for the first time, and then has her arm fixed by Dr. Payne right after? Well they took footage of Payne working on Serina. That's actually Seymour's arm that Payne is "scanning". It's all of the footage they had that didn't show Jane's face.

You can find out Jane's upcoming appearances here:

I've been watching for a year, but she always seemed to do stuff in California, Florida, New York, etc. So when I saw that she was going to be in Ohio, I jumped on it.

Did you get to ask her about wanting to be in DeSanto's Galactica production?

Sorry, I didn't. I only had a few minutes to talk to her before she had to go in to do her speech. I've been talking to some other people who were going to see her, so I'll see if they will ask.

Cool encounter Mike!!
Its a shame she couldn't/didn't continue with the role of Serina (altho Dr Quinn medicine Woman was a big thing in her career, and therefore ultimately better for her bank balance)
I simply loved the chemistry between the characters of Serina, Apollo and Boxey., and Jane brought such dignity to the role of Serina, she deserved a longer prescence!!

Cheers,
Lara

A Class act

I agree. I think we all would have liked to see her continue with the series. She really was a class act, and there really was just no replacing her for that role. Too bad she had to get back to London for another production.
