In my opinion - you bet your a** it is. The opening sequences are as much a part of the shows as our main cast, great stirring scores by Joel Goldsmith for both SG-1 and Atlantis that really ramp up the excitement heading into a given episode.

Ultimately, the SciFi Channel felt that a 10 second opening was the way to go, following the lead of shows like Lost. Other than the abbreviated opening sequence, the timing of the episode will remain unchanged.

How do I feel? I'll miss both opening themes, but especially the SG-1 opening that has been with the show for the past 8 years.
:wtf: :Nsad:

Totally bogus.

Fans should select the first commercial that airs and send that sponsor nasty letters demanding return of the stolen theme!

10 seconds, what the Frack

Hell's Bells! The Stargate theme is a great theme. Soon so-called "hour-long dramas" will actually consist of about 35 minutes of actual entertainment.

And you know what? Viewers will just put up with it.

Unbelievable!

Tha'ts bad. I hope they make the 10 minutes something to look at. :/:

So -

They've cut down the theme sequences for all 3 SciFi Friday shows now... I hope they don't whack down the theme for Firefly when it starts running on July 22nd. That show has a vocal track as part of the theme and people will have a field day with Skiffy if they cut it down....

I just don't get it with this channel - they continually try and find ways to vex their audience and they've just found a new one.

I must confess to crying foul over this matter as well.

You are right Peter because they don't have a choice. Sci-Fi knows it can make a few more dollars with a few more seconds of ad's, and they probably don't understand the hand ringing by fans, or know that if they wait it out, no one will be talking about it much in a few months after the season begins in full force. Its understandable on one side and sad on the other...

I'm not a fan of the Stargate's so I can't feel your pain, but I certainly don't mind the shorter opening Galactica is going to have. When a lot of sitcoms started dumping their opening titles to jump into the jokes faster a few years back, I realized just how annoying I found the credits to shows. Now, I notice that most my favorite shows on TV don't bother with them and that's just fine by me. That might just come from me prefering movies that don't waste the first five minutes with names on screen. I say, get on with it, my attention span is short and my channel-changing finger is itchy. :D

I hate them:wtf: , is they add more time series I will be happy. I sincerely hope they fix them again in the future.

i think it's a bad idea to cut the openings down. Fro me, the themes are aprt of the show, and set the mood for the next hour.

Zynn October 6th, 2005 12:51 AM

How about we keep the themes short and just cut out a couple commercial breaks? I'm tired of being bombarded with commercials at what seems like every 7 minutes... and now days, most of the ads are from drug companies...

Sad direction TV is going... not only do you get hit with constant designated commercial breaks, but also get the ad pop-ups DURING the shows...

Sorry... my point was, I don't mind them shortening the theme as long as it gets replaced with more story content and not just another advertisement...

AJMarks October 7th, 2005 06:43 AM

SAd thing is I don't think they will take the time and use it for more storyline, instead it will be for another commerical, which I don't watch anyways. I turn the channel during commericals to find something else to watch during that time then, usually, come back.

You got that right. I always enjoyed the opening themes to a show like SG1, this really bits the hindquarters!:hack:  :rage: :wtf: :thumbdown :thumbdown

TopGun January 22nd, 2006 03:35 AM

Apparently they are back to normal :D

NE0 February 8th, 2006 12:44 PM

They orginally cut the short intro so that they could add more time to the episode, but it took away from the eps. so much, that fans complained and it was returned.

Galactifan February 19th, 2006 08:46 AM

Heck, I'm just glad they put the opening sequence back in. It's pretty lame trying to squeeze in even MORE commercials.

Krystal April 1st, 2006 01:06 PM

Yay! they're back! I love the new openings to both Stargate.

Starkiller September 15th, 2006 08:22 PM
