Interior Sets

I thought I would ask this now.

we need to have some internal set built.

I can build them but can someone please look at the series (good part) and if possible create a plan drawing of it, with possible images that you consider useful for detail.

I need these for the project.

we don´t need the hanger or launch decks or bays
nor do we need the bridge

places like the life station, pilots quarters etc is needed or whatever you can think off. we can work in stages

its quite possible that the Techmanual will come out in stages or volumes. so that none of use lose steam and wish to see the rewards of the work.

when all can be done is do we can create a revise edition.

I have noticed that most of those sets all use the same vaccuform panels on the walls, just arranged in different configurations. The most obvious one to me being the one that is used repeatedly along the sides of launch platform. that shape can be found in almost every room, including the bridge and Tribunal chamber (court room).

There are several different ones, and they occasionally have variations of the main type. With a small library of panels you can build the majority of the walls and such of any room or corridor.

Right now I only have worked on one of these vaccuform panels.
The hardest thing about the galactica interior parts is the heavy use of rivets. If you model nice rivets your polycount goes through the roof. I was using this model to learn some "normal mapping" techniques. I achieved some promising early results.
It takes a lot of extra time to set up the model this way, but if you use it a lot it could reduce render times quite a bit.

Re: Interior Sets

nice work ,,,,,,

so perhaps someone can design some floor plan of some rooms and we can experiment on it.

simple 3d sample to get the idea flowing .

I would do it .. but it will cut in to my modelling time .

I forgot that one.....

some of the sections would not be in the fan film I am writing but they could be in future project by other member

Re: Interior Sets

Quite a few pieces can be re-used or slightly modified for use elsewhere. For example the book shelves behind Adama's desk can be made from the wall of diagonal support columns that separate the launching bays.

As I build stuff I'll try to export some parts that are likely to be re-usable elsewhere and make them available.

Re: Interior Sets

Were there any plans to get a Basestar bay modeled?
I am talking about the one that was pictured in Starlog magazine years ago.
Lit properly it would make for beautiful visuals.

Re: Interior Sets

it will be done then ......

As I was thinking that the Colonial Fleet manual can be tackled first as we already have most of the material needed already or in advanced build up.

Cylons manual can come next, it has less to fill as far as I can see

the final manual will be the system

planets and such .... we will all have to think about that.

there is even a possibility that when all is done we can revise things later and reissue it to the community ...

Re: Interior Sets

I have bitmaps of the face plates for those oscilloscopes in the background. I'll make those available. I gathered a decent library of them last week, and you should be able to match up the same types used in each scene if you want to go that detailed.

The Lifestation layout seems not to be set in stone, these are from a cut scene from LPOTG:

thanks...... Punishers pre-made models should speed this up mightily :)

thanks for all this research. it save our time for modelling. and I know its a lot of time going into this.....

Re: Interior Sets

I will try to download these images later today .... to design the basic shape ......

its also possible that there are a number of these life stations around the Galactica ..... and broken into compartments etc.

Punisher454 March 10th, 2011 07:35 AM

Re: Interior Sets

The Life station is likely to be a groups of several large rooms like the one in the link as well as operating rooms, exam rooms, recovery rooms and labs. Like a small hospital. It should have several large group rooms like the one in the link to accommodate large numbers of wounded personnel.

gmd3d March 10th, 2011 07:37 AM

Re: Interior Sets

Yes I am thinking along the same lines

peter noble March 10th, 2011 12:31 PM

Re: Interior Sets

I think you see a recovery room (small part of it) in G80, the room that Cassiopeia performs the test to see if Starbuck and Chameleon are related, and the room Serina dies in must be near by.

I will do a set of rough plans before I comment to follow through. thanks for the feed back on that
