My refit Enterprise...built in Blender, Rendered in iClone

5 Attachment(s)
Hi, folks,

I decided to take a break from my Galactica project, and monkeyed around with Blender for the last three days building this. She's still not fully textured, and needs a few more pieces (phaser banks, nav lights) but she does have some parts that can be independently lit (impulse thrusters, photon torpedo launchers, warp emitters).

I also stored the individual components so I can kitbash and make other Federation starships.

But anyhoo...this is my first crack at a Federation Starship. I hope ya like. :)

Nice work for a first build..

The Federation ships esp the Enterprise is a harder ship to build
than the Galactica I think, due to the very fact they are the most
recognizable.
The Galactica has more hull "eye candy" nurnies and tubes and
such and take more time. but if your wrong your can get away with
it (I think)

not so with the Enterprise... damn fine first attempt Steve

Thank you, Ger. :)
In many ways, the Enterprise was simpler to build, for the very reason you stated...not a lot of greebling like on the Galactica or an Imperial Star Destroyer. Also, the Enterprise (and most Federation ships) are made up of relatively simple shapes (cylinders, saucers, etc).

It took me three days to get the ship to the point where I had lettering planed on:
I need to rework the lettering on the aft underside of the saucer section, but it shouldn't take much at all...just a little repositioning.

I hear you on this.

I been working on my Enterprise Tutorial for months (breaks due to vacations and other projects etc).

Oh my freaking gjord! Wait until I show you guys the hull pattern on the ship. It's not movie accurate, but it is derived from the motion picture hull plating. It REALLY makes this ship come alive, and I still haven't put on the other things like phaser banks, nav lighting, etc. Just the pattern and the specular touch I gave it already makes it look like a motion picture starship. :) Pics coming very soon! :)

Finally, here are some images with the hull patterning and lettering. I think it really livens this mesh up. :)

Some more shots.

I widened the nav deflector dish and housing, added lots of hull/window lighting (which is actually animated....will post video soon), and made the phaser emitters look like a cross between the typical emitters and a cannon. If it helps to justify my reasoning, I actually took some influence from the old Type II hand phasers, in that the barrels terminate in a hollow needle point, just like on the hand phasers. :)

Test video/recreation of a scene from Star Trek the Motion Picture. Slight embellishment on my part. Didn't like some of the cutting, but overall it turned out alright.

Very nice.

Nice job of, liked it.

Though you use blender and iClone, you may want to check out scifi meshes.com ( if you are unaware of it)

Tons of Star trek stuff. Tuts, tips etc and downloads. and more

unsure if any can be used for your apps but have found some useful tuts, tips and all there.

Have yet to try my hand at ST stuff. thought that was pretty good.

Thanks, everybody. Glad you liked it. :)

I'm sure I could probably get some good Trek meshes from those sites...and in fact, I do have another refit Enterprise and an old series Klingon battlecruiser that were made by other folks. (Artists unknown. The ships came from a sci-fi movie maker app site.)

Kinduva matter of pride though, being able to build and animate your own ships though. :) I'm really appreciating the creativity that Blender, 3DEXChange, and iClone have allowed me to open up.
