Battlestar Construction

With all this modeling going on I am curious on how one can take one of these
models and actually constructing a battlestar including internal details like
crew quarters, bridge, viper maintenance shops, weapon stores, fuel tanks,
storage areas, engine and what goes on inside the landing bays down to the
level of beams, walls, machinery and plumbing.

Then it would be interesting to see how one can construct a battlestar as if
it was actually being built in orbit around a planet. What kind of facility would
be required to conduct such an operation including what it would look like? How
long would it take to complete one ship and how many people would be needed
to do it?

Years to build the internal layout of the Battlestar.. I know one modeller working on the USS ENTERPRISE based on some old blueprints working on it for years..

Not worth the time involved imo

totally impractical to do the whole thing. instead you concentrate on individual compartments and such. Start with the ones you have some source material for.

I have done some of this, Taranis has also. One major challenge is deciding on some standards before you begin. Scale is probably one of the most important things to decide on right away. Many of us here have settled on a scale of 6080 feet long (1 nautical mile). Some longer some shorter, for me 6080 works perfectly.

search the forums here at CF and you'll find quite a bit of info that will help you.

At least that is a start and it is good to do a level-by-level design from ship design to
section design to compartment design. I have been looking at the whole-ship models and
the 6080' length is realistic. This issue is going to come up when there is an effort to
show the rebuilding the colonial fleet in a movie or show and then have to show how it
is done. If there was any work already done by fans to solve this problem the show or
movie producers may consider it and accept other input as well.
