Hi all
As BST pointed out I have started a fanfic, focusing on the history of the colonies
from the time they departed Kobol to when they are forced to leave the colonies
and set out for Earth.

and I am looking for any idea, thoughts, facts you may have. iT does not matter.
i would like you to post it here.
the main character telling the story is Aulius, he is a wounded warrior. wounded during the attack on the cylon basestar in Hand of God.

and he is asked by Adama to record the histroy of the colonies for future generations, with so much lost in the Holocaust. Aulius agrees.

so I am braking it into two types of stories.

1. the colonial history itself from the time of Kobol.
2. the Galactica jounery to earth staying with the adventures of Apollo and Starbuck as seen through Aulius eyes.

well that a rough idea of what i have been working on these last few months, on and off, a number of threads have been very intresting for this.

Anyone ever come up with a name for Adama's father?

so i will be looking at the reasons who the 13 tribes departed kobol.
at the moment i don't no it Adama gave the reason in the lost planet of the gods.
I will be watch that episode soon to find out.?

You may want to PM Bijou88 about this. Let him know I referred you to him, if you like. He's been working on a project of his own dealing with Colonial History but, from a different angle. He may have some ideas for you and perhaps there could be some collaboration that would help both projects.

Thanks, I am going to try and tell two stories with in the one...one side dealing with the fleet and the other dealing with Aulius discoverys in colonial histroy, It been slow going because I am trying not to counter or dissregard anything in the show..

Trying to find the method is the fun part...

I've been thinking along those lines on and off for a few days. You know what? i actually may have done something similar years ago on the skiffy boards. I remember the last person to ask such a question over there was Raymar 3rd!

But it was more like the entire history of the colonies up until the exodus after the holocaust. Ask Larocque if he can find such a post from around 2001 2002 etc.

Anyways. I think your tale needs all the references from the series itself plus any and all revisions made and work them into your story.

In ancient times there were cites and lands ruled by Kings, Queens, Emperors and Warlords and so forth. Be great to have charaters based on such rulers and set several stories around them.

Make Kobol out to be like things from Earth's past. But just put your own spin on things. Humans tribes living on Kobol probably fought over things we did and still do. Your kobol can kind of be a combination of many things from Earth history and would explain the whole 12 Tribes Of Man better than the BG pilot did by including, different races coming together in a council. But on Kobol this happened only after generations of war and infighting between the tribes and their own kinsmen.

You could base several of the Kobollian Tribes on several well known eras and kingdoms of Earth history thus basing several of the themes we know the 12 colonial tribes have throughout the saga, and look back showing the ancient kobollians were the early forefathers of the coloinals in the series.

You could borrow the Medieval civilization of England and Europe. As one of the Kobollian Tribes, everything that was apart of their world adapt several things from it. Several of the Africian Tribes and their background during the time of their civilization of the 1600 and 1700's. Egyptian, Roman, Greek and Norse legend you could fit in as the influence is there already. But loosely base some other backgrounds from all over the Earth so that it seem the Kobollians have or had the ancestors of most people on Earth. For example Feudal Japan is another historical part of history you could lift and base several Kobollian customs on? everyday life, government, warfare, the history somewhat, not an entire cut and paste job but taking the interesting ways of life, that some of the races on Earth people have lived in the past and asking the great 'what if' questions if they started out like that elsewhere?!


The Tribes based on many races of Earth people! Would be an incredible forum to explain several of the differences between colonials wouldn't it. Hatch's novels tried this but it hasn't worked?

Taking some of the things said during the series and working it in would be another twist.

1) Count Iblis knowing Adama family line is from the house of Kobol.

2) Adama knowing "Eden" was the largest city on Kobol.

3) Adama knowing of and stating Kobol was visited by white lights ('Angels') i.e. "The Ship Of Lights".

And why the 13th tribe was the last to leave Kobol and leave the record in the tomb Adama, Apollo and Serina found. Lets not forget Kobol wasn't hidden by all in the black void? It's possible the fact, tomb robbers did know of Kobol and knew of it's tombs. (Thinking huge amounts of treasure was inside)

Haven't worked out or thought up just how this would logically all fit. But i was thinking put stuff in that plays on upon what we know already, far as man development, warring tribes, mythology and adventure set in space would go. Far as writing fan fiction, must be as hard as doing an actual novel.

Anyway ideas and something to think upon for now. I see if there any other stuff i can come up with and how i'd do the fanfic.

I do know that a beautiful counterpoint to the Kobollians growing up and developing on Kobol would be. The Reptillian Cylons growing up too, in another starsystem next door, becoming the scurge of the universal knowing one day they will develop the machine Cylons that will one day wipe them out. Perhaps they learned of warfare from the barbaric humans that are just as warlike as themselves?!

Either way, yes this will be an interesting topic to talk about and add ideas to.

Dark horse comics did. Tales Of The Jedi and The Sith War. Seem its only fitting, the Galactica crowd get a set of similar stories that would tell the huge backstory to the early days of the 12 Tribes of Planet Kobol. That became the 12 Tribes of the Battlestar Galactica universe!!!

Or kinda like what Krypton was like before she blew up! Her race of people, their tribes, their customs, backgrounds, religous background, her history, their enemies?, allies etc.

I think another important twist is, the other 12 tribes that formed the 12 colonies evolved differently after leaving Kobol. While the 13th went elsewhere and scattered across the stars i.e. spreading their seed of humanity across the universe (Would explain the planet Terra, and the other planets the colonial fleet encountered that have human life!)

Colonials of the 12 worlds must be very different from the people's of Kobol, eon's after those generations of years of being apart?

Even if a lot of their culture was passed down. The vast passage of time would indicate many changes within the eras between the people grew up on Kobol and those that are their descendants.

Still, i think any tales chronicled in the two eras, i.e. the past: Kobol and the present: On the Galactica with Aulius charting the histories. Has plenty of room to tell exotic stories.

Kobollian warlords fighting over lands empire's and dynasty, preists and preistess. Old sages telling kobollian children of epic tales from the past. The white lights i.e. the beings of light, and their involvment in Kobollian people's affairs. The age of technologies and sciences when Kobollians discovered space travel, E.S.P. powers! (important fact!) If Adama was taught special mental abilities as part of coloinal military experiments? perhaps he was taught something colonials were rediscovering all over again from their Kobollian ancestors!

Space pirates? Perhaps they have a long line of piracy dating back to ancient times during the days of Kobol? bloodthirst human pirates that traveled the stars.

And maybe it would be good having this Aulius in the present time. Discover some legendary Kobollian of ancient legends passed down, and find out from D.N.A. tests conducted within the fleet from the civilians that this person is destined to fulfill great quest that includes many fantastic things, including finding Earth! And have the Council Of Twelve and the Colonial Military fighting over who this could be? And not even know if it's a he or she?!

So much so, this evolves into a colonial civil war, infighting over who this person is? Corruption within the Council of Twelve and even fighting within the Colonial Warriors Corps. Some loyal to Adama? Others to the Council. Others ready to mutiny and back a mysterious person of legend! Would Starbuck, Boomer, Athena, Dr Wilker, Dr Paye, Dr Salik Cassiopea, Sheba and Apollo be on opposite sides in all this!

Ah... just ideas. Don't mind me. I'll try to top myself and come up with better stuff?

Nah, this Aulius person idea is quite fine. Seeing the istory through his study on the Galactica would be original somewhat rather than a "blatant" outright Adama's ancestor route you might take? Doing a cross section of both, Aulius on the Galactica and seeing the records come to life with the people of Kobol from his studies through some holographic projection or their POV from the Kobollians within the recorded story playing out what was recorded in history would be a much more interesting way of playing both sides.

I.E. you'd be able to do your own continuation within the fleet, Aulius and his place in the fleet, get to see him interact with the main Galactica characters Apollo, Boomer, Starbuck, Sheba, Athena, Cassiopea and Adama etc. And the half of he fanfic deals with the mystery of the hidden secret history of Kobol researched as never before. With new characters from Kobol introduced!

And maybe it would be good having this Aulius in the present time. Not my best idea as it sounds too familiar. But you could play that 'plot thread' idea up too?

Hmmmm..massive time span there? Man's time on Kobol could have been as long as the Dinosaur's time on Earth? (65 million years) then the huge gaps inbetween. I mean the 12 tribes left Kobol and settled on the 12 planets but what happened between that time? Was the journey like the Galactica's journey to find a new home. some of the others might have split the main group before the 12 worlds were found?

Then there is the part of their ships being destroyed when they turned on their own technology? Read "The Tombs of Kobol". Let alone the period of civil wars and rediscovering their own technology, then their neighboring tribes on the other planets. Long before the war with the Cylons. Speaking of which, will you include the Reptillain Cylons tragic fall and Count Iblis part in the birth of the machine Cylons too? Maybe some interesting reptillian Cylon history and more background on Count Iblis would be shared.

Guess this had spured on my own ideas for my fanficiton as i've wanted to continue mine. The fall of both Iblis and the original Reptillian Cylons is another part of Galactica uncharted history which needs to be cleared up. And since Iblis is a fallen angel who was kicked out by the other angels. He must have brothers and sisters other there that were kicked out as well? Lets remember in the bible Satan and one 3rd of heaven rebelled against God and were punished by being banished.

There are more dangerous adversaries in the universe than your Cylons and all their allies combined?

I always felt this meant the other rebel immortal Angels now demons. His mortal demonic followers in the crashed ship. As well as the Beings Of Light (The Seraphs or Guardians) and other ancient beings. Long before the Cylons, their allies and the human Colonials wages war on each other in epic battles.

And perhaps the ancient Kobollians can be included in there as well? Like Kobollian Warlords, Kings, Legendary space pirates and so on.

Anyway good fortune doing the fanfic of yours. bout time you told us how it's going dude.

Hey, Taranis how are you progressing with the fanfic?. Any updates yet. i had i idea to put some pictures up from various motion pictures and whatnot of all kinds of ancient rulers from various epics.

Just an idea i had. I mean i was wondering if you needed inspiration for the people's of ancient Kobol? i've come across some interesting images and when i get the time i'd like to put'em up.

Perhaps you might get a picture in your head of how this could all fit together?

Lord Kingjason the work is coming along, I have been working on the Introduction chapters and am now moving into the main focus of the story.

History of the last day on Kobol .. and the culture around it. you mentioned in one of your post about KRYPTON link I was thinking along those lines, but it will i think be a slow death of Kobol.

Again any ideas are welcome, Some of you guy have been thinking along these lines for possibly years.

Aulius is only the resarcher and discover of the histroy of Kobol from out side the fleet record ... you will see how in a few days. I hope to post a more or less completed intro.

YES please .. I want to have a visual log if you will for the fanfic (as I am working on for martoks Dark Exodus fanfic) and I want to show Kobol if i can at it height of wounder and later show its lose.

The story Has grown into something I was not expecting at all,

its not going to structured in chapters .. but episodes if you will with no ending of the fanfic .. as it called the Lost Odyssey which not only will look at the voyages of our Galactica friends but the depature and the jounery to the future colonies.
and the settlement there after.

I am going to leave some gaps that can be felled later on by me or someone who want to tell his or her stories. Aulius need not be the only historian??
