View Full Version : Atlantis: questions and quandaries

Been thinking about this and I'm just curious what was going on in your thoughts...
The Major rescued all the people from that planet that was being hunted by the wraiths because he felt it was the right thing to do right?
The people he rescued are used to travelers from other worlds coming there by using the gate right?
They had never met anyone before who did not know about the wraiths right?
So there are a lot of people out there being victimized by the wraiths right?
2 things (quandaries)
Won't the Major feel the need to rescue them all?
What would the logistics look like? ie how to feed all the people he just rescued let alone all the ones to be rescued. I suppose if you rescued everyone from all the places the Wraiths cull their food from then you could always starve them to death LOL!
Other thoughts roaming around in my head
Did the ancients not say they had to sink Atlantis in order to stay safe?
But it's not under water anymore so there must be a way for the wraiths to get to it now that it's above the water and as the Dr. mentions they are defenseless. I know that the Wraiths would need to know the address but they were hot on their tails there is a good chance that they saw the address or enough of one to do a process of elimination like the good guys did and although they could not get through that gate surely it would not take them long to figure out what place it was.
Also why if they could block the Wraiths from entering through the gate into Atlantis could they not do the same with the gate on the planet?

Answer a) because it is in the script
Answer b) because it wasn't in the script
Some combination of these phrases should answer all questions.

They may have a whole city, but how are they going to make enough food in the middle of an ocean? I suspect food will be a problem. Everyone will probBLY be breaking out alot of fishing rods. So that may curtail the Major somewhat.
Also, the stargate iris prevents gate travel... but you can still travel by ship. I'm sure the Wraiths can do a hyperspace jump.

ok I had not thought about fishing that could help but you'd need nets or bait...
I was thinking that the wraiths could access them that way too. They have to be able to access them some way otherwise the ancients would not have left or had to sink their city.

One method to get food would be to just go through the Gate.
They alreay have good relations with a huge tribe of people, so they just become mercenaries protecting hunting and farming parties, and get food via the gate.
Travelling by ship, sure, but first the enemy would have to know where the gates are in space when they have become depended on just knowing gate addresses.

Theoretically no one who is from earth should ever go through the gate in this world so that you eliminate the chance of this happening instead only the people they just rescued should go through the gate to fetch food.

I think the Earthers will go thought the gate, because it is in the script.
Seriously, it wouldn't be very heroic of them to hide behind proxy forces.

They are all one force now in my eyes all working together. With the promise of raising your children on a safe world ie Earth (which as soon as they discover a power source they can return to) I would think the new people would be just as keen to do their share to protect it's location from the Wraiths.
I can't fight that script answer! LOL;) :D

The Major rescued all the people from that planet that was being hunted by the wraiths because he felt it was the right thing to do right?
He may feel that way, they seem to be writing him a bit like Jack O'Neil and he will always want to help people who need it. But, it was the right thing to do because "No one gets left behind" is a huge part of the military belief system. They hinted at the fact that he disobeyed a direct order so that he could rescue three comrades. There is a definite line between not leaving your comrades behind and trying to save the universe. I have a feeling he will adhere strictly to the first and will do whatever he can accomplish the second, so long as it doesn't compromise Atlantis and his comrades.

Teyla's people seem to be familiar with a lot of other planets, even that little boyknew a bunch of gate addresses. I am sure they will know what is reasonably safe and what should be avoided at all costs. And who knows what secrets Atlantis holds.
Did the ancients not say they had to sink Atlantis in order to stay safe?
They must have found an unexplored world before they sunk it, possibly one that is difficult to reach by ship, otherwise the Wraith would have found them and destroyed the city. If they can shoot at things in space, it's pretty likely that a few hundred feet of water isn't going to stop them.
Of course, you know that security will be compromised occasionally, it would be an incredibly boring story without a little suspense and action. :D

I just thought of something.... no one said there isn't land near the Atlantis base. There could be a whole continent out of view.
:D
Also I'm pretty sure the Wraiths are confused as to where these new peopo came from. But once they find out, coming via hyperspace should be easy. They built a huge mothership the size of galactica. One can assume they built more than one. And since they can't fit through a gate, one can assume the people who built them had mastered star travel.

Of course it could be an ancient's ship the wraiths took over....

Eventually, the wraiths will find Atlantis base, and the only Stargate that can reach Earth will have to be defended. It is only a question of when in the series development this will happen.
