Captain Apollo’s speech to the Terran Presidium (with great thanks to writer Donald Bellisario and actor Richard Hatch):
There was once, far across this universe, a system of 12 planets who had reached a level of commerce and peace unparalleled in our knowledge of man.
I come from a world where the people believed that the opposite of war was peace. We found out the hard way that the opposite of war is more often slavery. And that strength, strength alone can support freedom.
My version:
There was once, 25 years ago and a bit more, a science fiction television programme called Battlestar Galactica.
We belong to a scattered but worldwide fandom that believes wholeheartedly in that TV programme’s message and we still fight today to see that message continue in the face of apathy and doubt. We fight because we still believe, and that that belief may very well move mountains.
Please donate whatever you can to Colonial Fan Force (details at www.colonialfanforce.org) because the journey isn’t over and the adventure must continue!
