I sat down one weekend and cranked out the Galactica. Several people have pointed out little errors in the model, and I may end up correcting them one day.

Starter programs? Well, there's alot of programs out there but I'm not sure what the best starter program is. You could try one of the following:

Amorphium
Maya
Lightwave
3d Max
Bryce 3d
Soft Image
Strata 3d

I have demo versions of Strata, Lightwave and Maya. If you like I can send you a copy. :)
