View Full Version : CGI Comic Rough Draft

David Kerin

I decided to post (for whatever reason) a work in progress version of the "comic" project I've been working on.

It is about the first half of the story (which could be considered a spin-off pilot of sorts), and is not refined or proof read as of yet.... so please take that into consideration.

Hope you enjoy, and as always open to suggestions.

You can find it here:
http://kerin.3dgladiators.com/comic-web/bsg-joining.htm

Thanks,

Dave

p.s. - I haven't actually checked all the links/files, so let me know if there is a problem... thanks again.

The belts and misc weapons are mostly found at Renderosity. (thus the fun of crediting everyone when I'm finished)

The Colonial Blaster I made in MAX and exported as a wavefront OBJ. It's not precise, I was just going for the "feel" of the weapon. (which in my opinion is one of the coolest scifi pistols - it just looks powerful - the original from the show that is.)

I've uploaded a zip file containing the blaster and charges located at:

http://kerin.3dgladiators.com/blaster-charges.ZIP

The Male warior jacket is a poser turtleneck texture. If you want I can upload that as well.

Thanks, and if any problems with the zip let me know.

Drool!!!

Just when you think "Battlestar Galactica" is fading away, no thanks to the production snafus, FANDOM keeps the spirit alive and well. Awesome job, Dave!

We really should port those images (text free) into Macromedia Flash. When you mouse over, the text could fade-in/ fade-out/ appear in each panel. And that way, people have:

a.) BSG comic books in .swf format to download to their hard disk, if desired; and
b.) a chance to see that gorgeous art sans text, then pull up the text to read the story. (Good story, too, btw.)

I foresee a LOT more BSG art being created in 2002... ;)

Just food for thought,
Michael:colwar:

Btw, MAJOR kudos to Darrell for his downloadable Poser costume/props work.

It's stuff like this that inspires/helps people to play in the BSG universe. And it doesn't hurt that it's quality stuff, too.

David,

Excellent work! I always enjoy a good BG-based story. I'm really looking forward to seeing more.

There's no graphics, but if you're interested, we have a pretty good story set in the Battlestar Galactica universe going at the Battlestar Callisto website. Our members write it based on a rough outline as a "lite RPG." The URL for the website is

http://user.dls.net/~rick/callisto/

and the direct link to our storyboard is

http://www.scifi.com/bboard/browse.cgi/1/5/836

Post more when you can!

I've uploaded additional pages which covers most of the storyline - except for the epilogue.

These are still rough. When I finish all the pages I will refine the wording/spelling, and create a different interface for navigation.

32 pages and counting.

It's now 3am and I should probably go to bed.

Going for a new record here? ;)

Btw, thanks for leaving us hanging on page 32. (For those that haven't caught the story yet, you'll see what I mean.)

You're crafting a terrific work, Dave. Keep it up. :)

I've uploaded the final pages of the comic project with a new navigation interface. You can also open the graphic files w/o the text as suggested by Michael (however it is not in Flash... I should really learn that program some time).

The previous link above will redirect you there...
or you can click here:

As usual I hope you enjoy.

As I read through this there may still be some slight changes made, but basically this is it.

Thanks for the compliments guys...

If there is any other help on properly identifying credits it would be greatly appreciated.

If I had any idea this would become as large a project as it has I would have kept better track from the beginning.

Warrior... I'd be interested to hear some of the ideas you mentioned.

Funny you should mention that... I finished an animated 2 minute trailer for the Sentinels and sent it off to Michael Faries at Battlestargalactica/pegasus.com

It is more on the SFX animation side rather than the character animation (which I'm looking to get more into), but I think it's a nice montage of elements from the comic's storyline.

I thank you very much for the positive and kind words... it means a lot.

I hope to continue the series some time soon... depending on my other work.

Sincerely,

Dave Kerin

BRAVO, DAVID!

Thanks for the more of the story. The time it's taking place is intriguing, to say the least. I hope you don't mind that I posted the URL on the SciFi Board. Ken posted an article about a different storyline taking place alongside of the Galactica story. I had suggested that in an email to TPTB, as he had. So I posted your URL so everyone there could see a great example of it.

Keep up the good work.

When it's live, you'll find links at:

* http://www.battlestargalactica.com/gallery (you'll see a mention on this page, plus a short term announcement on the "What's New (News)" page at http://www.battlestargalactica.com/whatsnew/

* http://www.battlestarpegasus.com/gallery/david_kerin/ plus a mention on BattlestarPegasus.com's main home page.

I hope other sites are able to pick up the trailer, too, with Dave's permission.

Make that Monday, June 3rd for the debut on the web sites. Network congestion is making it difficult to upload the streaming media file at the moment.

I certainly give permission to those who may want to use it on their sites. (As long as they are Scifi/BSG/or media related) Just please give me credit.

I did this animation as an exercise for myself and to make something to share with fellow fans. I hope you all like it.

Seeing that a number of us are unhappy with the direction BSG is being taken, it may come to us fans to keep the original spirit alive (of course it was us fans all along... you think they'd listen to us...)

Out of all the talented artists out there I'd love to see more sharing of meshes, renderings, ideas, etc... at such sites as battlestarpegasus.com (if you have the room Michael)

I know many people have personal reason for keeping creations private, but it seems a shame for so many great creations to be seen by so few.

Oh well, that's my little speech.

I'm looking forward to it being posted.

And once again, I hope you all like it...
