Hi all!
Long before there were Windows PC's, long before there were even 3d games, our beloved Battlestar Galactica was immortalized in a video game - way back in good ole 1979.
It had raiders and basestars and hyperwarp and space battles. And it sported what was at the time, the undisputed best 3d engine and most impressive AI of any video game. Sure, it looks chunky now, but back then it was truly awesome. You really had to play it to understand how good the AI was. The enemy raiders would dive and swoop and swing in before and behind you, catching you in a deadly ambush. And if you had a home theatre back then (which we did), with a large projection TV and stereo speakers with big woofers, you were in for a seat of the pants thrill!

I heard from other programmers that early versions said Cylons not Zylons, but of course the latter was the one marketed for obvious reasons. Even years later when they wanted to make a sequel, they had trouble finding a programmer who could understand the complex AI and true 3d universe layout of the original. Now of course everybody can do that, but it's nice to know BSG was honored by the best of its day.
Hope you like the pics. They actually don't do it justice, jpegs are great for photographic images with very varied details, but lousy for images with lots of areas of the same color (pcx was better for that). Also, the emulator I snapped these with has the palette off a bit; the photons are actually bright red and the baseships do a dazzling palette shift to make them sparkle.
Hope you like this trip down memory lane! ;)
