View Full Version : Do you miss Col O'neill?

Richard Dean Anderson is still on every episode, but he chose to spend only half of the shooting time on set so he can be with his little girl in LA.
I kinda feel like the show seems slower without him. I think its missing something. Like the action core is not full no more. Also Teal'C doesn't do much no more without Jack to relate to.
anyone else feel the same?

I hear you col. Oneill is my favorite character by far. He always has a funny wisecrack up his sleeve and he's pretty tough too. But I also like Teal'c he reminds me of Worf off of Star trek. Major Carter is boring cause when she talks I feel like I'm in science class, and Daniel's too much of a wussy geek.

Personally, the last few episodes have shown the SG1 team split up into smaller groups or individual stories, which probably explains the loss of some on-air chemistry and missing banter between characters, which gave the show its welcome lighter moments. Carter (Tapping) finally got to do an individual story, which is about time when one considers the other members of the main cast had their own episodes to bring more insight into their characters and showcase/extend their acting range/abilities.
Think I saw a post somewhere that they were filming several episodes at the same time in which Jack appears. So any rewrites or additional footage would have to be done while RDA was scheduled to be there.
I know some would like to see Jack and Sam get together, but that would probably be left to the possible future movies and most likely shown in the last movie in the series.

I agree, I did enjoy the episode with Sam on the ship.... it was a very well done episode. However, while its good to have a few character driven eps having several in a row is plain annoying.

I miss O'Neill, however, RDA also wanted to spend more time with his kid. To me, that is worth not seeing O'Neill as much.

Yes, I'm missing RDA in the show....it just seems to lack the cohesion...but, spending time with his little one is critical....and well worth the loss. Gotta have priorities....

Yes I miss colonel O'neill ............I think that less time on the set might well
lead to LOWER RATINGS if the 'tension' that made this show great doesn't
get reinstated on a different level.

I miss O'Neill, but think that at the same time it was good to the other characters because we could see the rest of the team more involved on the stories. Specially at the beginning we see some stories that give Teal'c and Carter more time. And I see that as a good thing. Although anyway I miss Jack's appearances. But I think they mix his scenes well with the rest of the episode.

Well it's good that Carter and Teal'c get more time .........I still miss Jack's
appearances though.

Another thing I noticed. Tealc was much funnier with Jack. O'Neill really brought out the funny side of Teal'c. Jonas was good at that too. But with Carter he is always a gentleman. And with Daniel Jackson the jokes down play as funny as with Jack. Jacks wit was just hilarious vs Teal'c subtle often mimed humor. And Teal was great cause he could get Jonas unerved. It would be funny to see Teal'c give Jonas a scary look then see Jonas spooked.
I really would like to see Adam Baldwin thrown in the mix. I think his scenes with Teal'c would be pretty good.

I noticed that too. That's one of the reasons I enjoyed the show so much.

The child is only 5 years old, why couldn't he bring her to Canada and have her on set like so many other working parents. Will the mother not do that? Looks like she could bring her up seeing that he has a house in both places. Her alimony and child support seems to depend on him working...no?..... I just hope he never tells her that he gave it up for her, she might have guilt feelings later on especially if she becomes a StarGate fan...She'll be wondering why her Daddy isn't in it much........but this is only my opinion. He is lucky to have a job where he can do this. At a regular job he would be fired for wanting to spend more time at home... I just hope he is not using her as an excuse, because he is burned out on the show....but I guess starring in it is different from us who watch it and wish we were there.....

I really don't blame RDA for wanting to spend more time with his daughter Wylie Quinn Annarose. After all he's going to be 54 this year and Apryl Prose will be 38. He probably wants to spend as much quality time with his family and split the baby sitting duties. And fortunately for him, he is able to do this at this point of his career. yeah, I guess I have to agree, I am glad he can do it and seeing that he has signed for the 8th season.....all is well........here's to hoping that Sg1 will continue on........then his little girl can go to Canada to spend the summer with him...lol Damn, I'm his age and my youngest child just turned 25......

Neither do I .......I certainly can't blame him for that .......although I think
bringing her on the set as a post said many other actor parents do is
an option too.

Maybe, but from what I read from the SG1 interviews with the cast, 12 hour shooting days are normal for the series. Don't know if I would have the patience and time to do my job and care for my kids at the same time, plus keep my sanity. I would be concerned that she may get overlooked when the sets and lighting are moved or go somewhere to play and may get hurt or lost inadvertently. Plus kids want to play and have fun at that age with their friends and you have the issue of going to school.

They have all of that for actor's children. I guess the mother wanted her to stay in L.A.

I see your point Sci-fi. I remember pulling 12 hour to 15 hour shifts myself
at some of the jobs that I had ..........I barely had the patience to deal with
my co-workers .............I truelly doubt given the circumstances if I would
have been patient with KIDS as well :wtf:

I have to agree with that, I really enjoy the interaction between O'Neill and Teal'c. And later just love the interaction between Teal'c and Jonas. I still remember when this two were boxing.

I read that O'Neill is to be promoted to Brig General next season. I guess the stasis is so that he can mend from being linked to the knowledge of The Ancients.

Having O'Neill in "stasis" means he isn't dead from all that Ancients knowledge stuffed into his brain. Which is good. Now he can be promoted to Brigadier. :D

Both RDA and Michael Shanks are rumored to be involved in the first SG: Atlantis ep, which airs after the first SG1 ep, so expect him to be alive and healthy for that.
