Colonial Starhounds approach an ominous force early in the thousand yahren war. (Models based on Ralph McQuarrie's preproduction designs for Battlestar Galactica)

I love the modeling and the setup of the scene, but McQuarrie's designs for are just ugly.

Oh, no doubt.
I'd imagine that they represent some of the old school designs of the colony forces and the Cylons.
even before adama's youth :D

True, the McQuarrie designs are not as refined or sleek as the final production versions, however it's always interested me to see the origins of such familiar ships.

The engine thrust was actually done in Photshop. I duplicated the fighter image, motion blurred it, and skewed the angle to match the direction.

The planet is all MAX. The Ring's texture map is the same map from the planet. In Photoshop I added some blur and filters to get it to my liking, then used a filter (I can't remember the name right now) which distorts it into a circle. That was about it.

Cool image! I like the engine thrust. The scene looks a bit too busy though.

I have never seen the pre-prod pictures, but I really like these designs. Very nice composition!
