Folks,

I've got a problem with my PC and I need some advice. The display is really "hosed up". I'm seeing shadowy horizontal bars across the screen and the display just, basically, looks all washed-out. I can still see everything but, not as crystal clear as before.

When I'm here at CF, the dark black background shadows over the "Favorites" and I can barely read the list of links that I have saved.

This just happened, suddenly, last evening, and I have been trying to fix it since then. I thought the monitor was going so, I tried swapping monitors with our other PC but, had the same problem. Then, I thought the problem might be with the display driver-NVIDIA 32? GE force 256 AGP and I tried to re-load it from Windows (cabinet files on the C: drive) but, no luck.

I'm running Win98 2nd edition with IE version 6.0.

I'll be searching through Windows support database for answers but, any suggestions would be most appreciated!!

Thanks, in advance,

BST

I was going to suggest a monitor problem, but you have already covered that. If I can get in touch with my cousin I'll try to get you some help. She is married to a computer tech.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help Bst.

First, see if the refresh rate on the display is too high for the monitor- drop it temporarily to the lowest setting and see if that helps. (That could happen if it's on 'optimal' and the monitor is getting old.) Degauss the monitor if possible.

Then reinstall your monitor driver if you haven't.

Download the latest NVidia drivers and update.

If you have a diagnostic program like Fixit, you can check the hardware, also.

Always try the simple stuff first. :)
