In addition to dealing with alot of really ugly forum stuff, I had a small problem. I tore about a third of my toenail off. Big toe, right foot. I actually did it monday night. But now I'm trying to think of the name of that goop you put on wounds. It goes on like a liquid. Then it acts like a skin. Its suppose to be better than a bandaid. Which would be good cause I am having problems keeping this covered.

Anyone got a brand name?

:D

There are a couple brands. Nu skin is popular but it was originally more of a cosmetic thing. Bandaid makes their own version though.

But I wouldn't put it over your toe where the nail is going to grow back. You might just have to suffer for awhile, but you should be used to that by now :)

Yeah, it's really not a good idea to use a liquid bandage on your toe. If you feel a need to cover it for whatever reasons, go with a traditional bandage. You can use Neosporin plus ointment, it has a pain killer in it, and medication to promote healing, plus the ointment will keep the nail bed from drying out.

You might wrap it with pages from RDM's script. It's so toxic, it'll kill all the germs.

No, DEFENATELY don't wrap your toe in that stuff!

It does however make a great bug killer, but I don't reccomend using it indoors.

Ouch!
I found a site myfootshop.com/
(I hope it will help).
It suggests to soak the toe twice daily in Epsom Salts, following directions on the box.
Use a band aid to hold the damaged nail in place and be on the look out for any redness or swelling; that could be a sign of infection.

I am not a doctor, but I played one in 4th grade behind the garage with the girl down the street. I find that moss and leaches always do the trick!

On a serious note. Keep the dressing loose, maybe wear a sandle for a few days and keep your eyes out for plasma or infection. You need to ensure the dressing breathes and keep it clean!!!

Oh yeah! It hurts like a mutha!!!! Been there!

Actually I think the toe is going to be fine now. Only hurts when you apply pressure that stresses the nail. All the nail below the crack got pinkish again. And the top though darker is still fairly pink. its only bad just under the crack. But it looks pretty clean and sterile. :)

The knee has a scab that's a little reddish around it. I take it that's infected? I've had this happen before. I never really paid much attention. :D

For the love of God, man...where do you keep the leeches???

If it is puffy, red, and hot, then yes, it is infected, and you might want to see a doctor. If it's red and hot, it's not as bad, and you might be able to care for it yourself. If it's just red, it's a minor infection, and your body should be able to fight it off just fine so long as your imune system is in proper working order.

Thomas,

Go to a health store and get some Aubrey Organic 100% Aloe Vera Gel. You have to keep it refrigerated. Apply it often, it helps wounds to heal faster.

You're welcome.

Thank you everyone!

I'm actually healing much better than expected. I mentioned before its a big "L" shaped crack. But except for directly under the crack and along the outside edge its all gone back to pink. I'm surprised at that. But very happy.

I think I got lucky and the nail will stay on. :)

Thank yous to everyone!!!!
