You’ve probably been to the ocean at least once in your life. I know I have. Going when you’re young and it’s all new is so amazing. The vastness is so overwhelming in its majesty.
On one of my first visits, I was having the time of my life. Playing in the sand, making castles, teasing the foamy waves with my chilly toes, it was all so perfect. The sun beating down was like an antagonist of the sea and its frigid beauty.
Then I got thirsty. Asking Mom if I could have some water yielded an odd reply – we have none. None? With gazillions of gallons of it floating inches away? Then she explained. Yes, it’s water but it’s not /drinkable/ water. It has an extra ingredient, salt. That spoils it for humans. So much water, so close by, and still I was thirsty. That leaves an indelible mark on a young mind.
Today I feel I am facing a similar experience. Yes, the new BSG is water. And I am /so/ thirsty. But you see, it has these extra ingredients that make it undrinkable, at least for me. It changes too much and so little is the same. It both puzzles and saddens me in ways I cannot express.
Water, water, everywhere. And not a drop to drink for a thirsty fan.
