...because Phoebe has come home.

Phoebe is a short-hair dusty calico of undetermined age. She's been tested for everything, and tested negative for everything, she's been spayed, and had all her shots, and has been purring almost constantly since she arrived 3 hours ago.

She was found wandering, aparently lost, and taken in by someone who tried for a year to find her a home. Because of her son being allergic, she gave up and took her to the SPCA. As she was walking in, this other woman was walking out, and just couldn't see Phoebe in a cage for months, and took her from the lady. Two months later, she strikes up a conversation with someone who is thinking of getting another cat, and four days later, Phoebe is curled up on my sofa purring herself to sleep.

The only problem now is learning how to spell her name. How did I manage to get two calicos in a row with names I can't spell?

I did that once, but Ojai told me you were hers.

Oh yeah...she's not here...:naughty:

Congratulations. Getting a kitty is like no other feeling. Let's hope the little feller' is friendly, and gives you companionship for sometime to come. :)

Cats are cool...you know the difference between cats and dogs.... Dogs come when called....Cats only come if they are intrested......I used to have 52 cats when I was foster parent many years ago. I gave it up though. I do however still rehab wild birds and squirrels every now and again. Now I am down to one one cat and I have had her for 17 years. She is the queen of my house. My 4 dogs have a high respect for her and give her a wide berth...lol .... except my tea cup Chiwawa (sp) who is half her size; sleeps with her. She does eye my 2 sun coyners every now and again, but she is to old to care about catching them.....

However they are porcelain. Where I live they don't allow pets.

Well, I'm not SUPPOSED to have a cat in my apartment, but untill I see that she does any damage to the actual apartment, I'm not gonna worry about it. I can hide her when the inspector comes.

Are you sure her name isn't Ginger? I got a cat exactly like that, except a little smaller. She's a house cat and she seems to like me more than my wife - she follows me all around the house and runs from her.

Her name is Phoebe because the woman who found her named her Phoebe, no telling what her name was before that. I just called her Ginger, tho, and she didn't answer.

Actually, I've developed some saddness concerning her, I think she's been abused. She flinches. There are actually several things that when put together make me think that. Her fear of being held, her dislike of being brushed, her concern over where my feet are, if she had just one of these I would just think it was a personality quirk, but all together, and the flinching, make me thing she was treated very badly, hit with both hand and with object, kicked, who knows what else. I hope I'll be able to gain her trust.

LOL. Same here...lol..are you sure her name isn't Prego? We once found a pregnant Calico cat and the kids dubbed her Prego and she had 8 kittens. Four of them had eight toes on their front paws and six on the back paws. We lived in Miami at that time so we figured they were decendents of Hemmingway cats. In fact the one we kept we called Hemmingway.

Did you know that male Calicos are very rare and you can get a stud fee up in the thousands for them?

Damn, I can't afford you.

I found out how much she dislikes brushing, I brushed her for about 15 seconds, and she bit me. I didn't think she had broken the skin, but aparently did, and it has become infected. There's a doctor's office near home, so I stopped in to have it looked at. It looks like $98. Out of the pay check that pays the rent.

The Dr. gave me samples of Augmentin. I had a mild reaction to Trimox, I broke out into an itchy rash EVERYWHERE, so it will be fun to see if I react to this. Fortunately I have plenty of Benadril on hand.

She might not have ever been brushed before and if she was neglected at some point, she might associate the brush as a punishment tool. Cats never forget and it takes time to earn their trust......I use to foster parent cats and know first hand. I had 52 cats at one time and they all had distinct personalities. I have faded scars on my hands and face from them. Sorry you had such a reaction to the antibiotics. Benedryl is a staple in my house, considering I'm allergic to cats...LOL..... I am down to one now though....

Well, see, I know that using a brush on an abused cat is a no-no, but I didnt actually know she was abused. The woman who gave her to me neglected to give me that little piece of information.

I know now. Things will be different.

I hope so, too. I've put her on a diet. She was a bit annoyed at first, but seems to have adapted ok now. I figure at least one of us should be at a healthy weight.

I totally agree, I can keep my animals in tip top shape, but I can't do the same for myself.....go figure.
