Sent you an e-mail.

In addition, I'm wondering if anyone has ever done any accurizing kits for the Revell/Monogram Cylon Raider?

I would like to see a cockpit and canopy kit. I've seen some on eBay but the Cylons included with the kit are so absurdly out of scale that it looks ridiculous.

Be checking my e-mail in a minute.
About the Raider.... your right, the ones that are on eBay are felgercarb. And so are the cockpit and pilot for the Viper that are sold by the same person. Very poor castings, all out of scale. (the Cylons were done under the impresion that the Raider is the same scale as the Viper..... which it is not.) You have 1/32 scale Cylons sitting in a 1/48th scale Raider. (doh!!!)
I have not done a cockpit for the Raider simplely because it's never really going to be seen.
But I am accurizing a Raider right now. Do not have any plans to do a accurizing kit though..... Unless there is demand for it????

I still would like a clear cockpit with Cylons in it. You may only see a hint of them, but still I want it. I think if you light the cockpit inside, you would see them better.

Did this raider quite awhile back.
Never finished it because I was never happy with any power connectors.
I wanted to use the original stand with it as well.

:bg04: Any chance of you making the nose longer like the studio model? Every thing that I've seen is great, but that's the one thing that no one has tackled. It should droop also. It would be great to have an affordable version of the studio model. The wings are also attached in the wrong spot. They should be higher. They should be about a third of the way up on the engine. That way the laser cannons will be in the center of the intake like they should be. The other faux pas that no one has corrected. Thanks for reading! :D

Wraith......
Where are you getting your details from??? :wtf:
The Monogram Viper was one of the better pentagraphs that they did from the models on the show.
The nose is not longer on the real studio models. The wings are attached in exactally the same position on the engine section. The lasers are set in the middle of the intakes.
The "droop" you refer to is only present on the studio models becasue of two factors.....

1) most of the studio models were made from castings taken from the hero models, and some of the parts were taken out of the molds before they were completely cured..(meaning they drooped while they were being assembled)
Most of the Icons and Monsters in Motion runs of these models were made from molds of these studio models not the hero ones. Which is why they droop too.

2) the other reason is an optical ilusion.... the models did have extra paneling on the top of the nose that was thicker and in a side shot would give you the impression that the nose drooped when it actually doesn't.
That is one of the details that Monogram left off the model when they made it,... was this extra plating.

I don't do this extra plating because I like the cleaner look with out it. The other pics of the corrected parts that I have put up on these boards take care of the rest of the small deficiantcies in this model.

 I didn't know that!!!!!!!!!! I have both the MIM and Icons Vipers, and they both droop. I've watched some of the screen shots, and it seems that the nose is both longer and does droop. I have never seen a casting of the "hero" model. Are you sure? If so, then I have learned a valuable lesson. :salute:
I was sure that the Monogram model is based on the Life Size Viper that was used in the show with the actors. That appears to have a shorter nose that doesn't droop. Interesting... I'll have to check out your other parts for myself. :D

There were two different "Life Sized" Vipers used in the show.
The full sized mockup, and a shorter cockpit with a partial fuselage that was used when they needed to show two Vipers side by side. For example...... "Lost Planet of the Gods" where Apollo and Starbuck are flying side by side in the void.
"Saga of a Star World" when Adama and Tigh are talking with each other in the launch bay. "War of the Gods" when Sheba Starbuck and Apollo land on the planet..... Starbuck get's out of the "Short" version in the forground, Apollo gets out of the Full size mockup further back, and Sheba is running up from a large cardboard cut out of the Viper parked in the trees.
The most blaitent use of these two mockups is in "Take the Celestra" when Starbuck and Apollo land in the Celestra's landing bay....as the mockup in the forground rolls into frame... you can actually see the fact that it's an incomplete mockup...with exposed wood and all.
As to the models, yes I'm sure about the droop and the optical illusion. I have seen the original blueprints for the Viper, and there is no droop to the blue prints.
And the guys at apogee/Hartland were not wasted and drunk ALL the time.... (like when they built the Galactica) and built the Viper Hero models to the blueprints. (ofcourse then they got wasted when they were building the needed dupicate Vipers.... ie.... the droopy noses and out of shape wings)
Hey they just needed to look good on TV not in real life.

:rotf: Thanks for the info! It's good to know. The weird thing is... since I've seen the drooping nose, I kind of like it. It gives the Viper just that much more character. I knew about the "three Vipers". I thought that the R/M model was based on the full sized version. I have to admit, when I was watching that episode with my brother recently, we both burst out laughing when the unfinished cockpit version rolls into view. It's a scream! Do you have any copies of those blueprints? Or do you know where I can get them? I would love a set!
Thanks again.

Sorry Wraith,
The blueprints that my friend has are copies themselves and I think they would degrade in clarity too far if we tried to copy them.
Just for everyone here.....
This Viper I just finished, has all the accurizing details that I have made for the kit...
The Cockpit Set
The Rear Engine Detail
The Burner Can Set...

Since nobody has posted to this thread for awhile....
Here are some pics of my Two Seat Recon/Scout Viper that I just rebuilt in about a week to enter in my local IPMS contest.... (it didn't win anything...but hey...I got it finished)
I finally did a cockpit for it. Did a Male pilot and a Female co-pilot/spotter.
And cut off the kit stock burner cans and replaced them with my more accurate Burner Can Set. Dirtied it up a bit more and....voila.... :D
Here it is....tell me what you think. :salute:
