It also happens to now be called "Battlestar Galactica Judgement Day."
Just uploaded the torrent to http://www.demonoid.com
Go there, click on "torrents" and search Battlestar and you should find Battlestar Galactica Judgement Day.
If you download, please seed the file for the others out there.
Let me know what you think of the re-edit as a whole.
All the best,

I know it might be a bit of a tough task but if you ever do an edit of Saga of a Star World would you show more to the fate of the other Battlestars......in the movie there didn't seem to be enough Cylon Raiders to smash the Colonial Fleet
My download of Judgement Day (Return of Starbuck) is at 35% going nicely at 10-15kb so it be ready for watching by tomorrow well late night but DVD next day

Do you possibly have the telemovies of 'Lost Planet Of The Gods', 'Living Legend' and also 'Gun on Ice Planet Zero' as well? (Does anybody for that matter)
Ya know, if i'm not mistaken somebody said they put those exact same Galactica episodes up on a website called "originaltrilogy.com" as a torrent file and all.

Wow... the Mr. Kerin sounds so official.
No I haven't posted there but will have to check it out. I do have VHS copies of some of the telemovies, but not those. Interested to see the "Experiment in Terra" telemovie version where I believe they used the Return of Starbuck episode.
As for Saga of a Starworld, I would like to do that one if I were to do anymore, but it is such an undertaking that I cannot say when I would. If I would though, I would deffinately have to up the battle.
Thoughts for "Saga" so far include...
*More raiders/bigger battle at the beginning.
*Show Basestars firing large energy weapons from orbit. In conjunction with the raiders attacking the planet.
*I would like to do an edit with the Serina Illness scenes edited back in. Would have to look through the dvd deleted scenes more closely to see where they would work.
*There are other good deleted scenes that could be put in.
*Do something with that bad Vipers parked on Carrilon matte painting.
I know there's be more, would have to sit and watch it.
But again, don't know when or if I'll ever take that one on.

Just browses through the downloaded episodes you've put up!
FANTASTIC stuff David you should be very proud.
I think we now have a special edition of "The Return of Starbuck" that comes after "Hand Of God" unofficially. Although i'd like to see photo-realistic CGI in fan movies somewhat, the CG used here to show the dogfight battles was something else.
Starbuck's...ah won't spoil it for others but lets say yeah that was a satisifying ending moreso than the half hearted Robinson Cruiso type ending the G80 episode had. Living Legend was great in its own right also man, but you really need to put in some of the "Mission Galactica" scene extensions in there to have most if not all the completed scenes of LL like Cain's shuttle arrival passing through the Galactica. Too bad the telemovie footage of the Gamoray stuff is ultra rare to find and edit in, cos unlike the DVD deleted scenes i hear they aren't "Raw" and would make fine additions to a fan edit of LL.
Real neat stuff you've done David Kerin.
If i may add to that a couple of suggestions.
* Remove most of the repeated 'Dogfight' SFX footage (once seen don't repeat) and add in yours (just like in your HOG fan edit !) only even bigger on scale.
* Show the other Battlestar names via a little digital tinkering by 'pasting' their names onto shots of the Galactica/Atlantia's name plates? Even in "flipped" shots too. Triton, Pacifica and Acropolis! (make the dialogue of their names being mentioned much louder on the Galactica's background radio chatter? for continuity sakes and to make things clearer)
* For the purists out there, add a few smaller escort ships around the Battlestars in the opening just to make the fleet larger in scale somewhat.
* Show the other Colonial worlds briefly being invaded by Cylons. And show that the colonies fell cos dozens of Basestars attacked the homeworlds and it wasn't just a mere 3 Cylon basestars.
Show the colonial military space stations launching vipers. And other civilian interstellar ships escaping the chaos. And if at all possible can you add in Richard Hatch's Supercylon Basestar?
* Have the Battlestar Columbia being the last destroyed Battlestar. Say around Caprica or Sagitara on patrol and defeading the colonies during the colonial holocaust, just to confirm cadet Cree's tale of its destruction in Gun On Ice Planet Zero to Vulpa! (thus we'd then know it to be true) Let see the Columbia quickly go out in a blaze of glory defending the 12 worlds from the Cylons?
Also show us some shots of the colonial cites on the 12 planets and give us a gander at their culture in relation to our ancient past, besides Egyptian and Greek civilization motifs associated with the BG series. Caprica had Egyptian pyramids, so what kind of cities did the others worlds have based on them in relations to their names from the Zodiac?
* When we see the Imperious Leader in his chamber, lets have him looking at various 3d holgrams around him, watching Cylon activities being reported in from across the galaxy. Thus it looks like he does more than just sit up there. (The Berkley novels said his "3 brain's" process tons of information all at the same time, so lets see that.)
* Add most of the DVD deleted scenes back in except Serina's illness. Might actually mess things up for you, if you were going to do a "Lost Planet Of The Gods" Special Edition fan edit then?
Just add in the colonial hymn after Apollo and Starbuck land back on the Galactica. After you edit the hymn together, cut to the Baltar epilogue as per usual.
Most of all make all brief CGI shots more "Photo-realistic" and put your audio into 5.1
Know its a tall order, but you know me and my wild overactive imagination when its comes down to Battlestar Galactica! ;)
Anyways fantastic stuff Mr Kerin congrats, please do some more BG fan edits and put'em up on the BG fan edits page and all.

That is a tall order, but all something that should be included.
If I'd put in the Serina sickness I guess it would have to be an alternate version. Unless she's still sick in LPOTG, just never mentions it.
I thought about the extra scenes from Mission Galactica, but since I was working off the DVD raw material I didn't go to transfer that other material. Also, while I liked the shuttle moving through the bay, I also didn't think it looked right. Lacked a shadow, or something, that looked fake to me. I did love thought the long flyover of the Galactica and fleet in the beginning. One of the best "forgotten" shots of Galactica. Besides, maybe someone else out there may edit an ultimate edition of Living Legend that includes those scenes as well. Wink, wink. And of course can feel free to use anything I've done.
I honestly must say though to not look for the Saga re-edit any time soon. I think I'm taking a break for a bit (although that always changes) and not ready to set aside the time for something that big.
Really glad you liked the re-edit. Would have liked to added more at the end, but didn't want to get too heavy into reusing footage. Still think it is more satisfying than the original ROS ending through.

It was great work, got it last night (Australian time) and i reckon it was more enjoyable than the Galactica 1980 version and i barely noticed the Adama and Dr Zee parts were not in that version

Well i'm glad you like my ideas David
I'll be more flattered if you did the 'Saga fan edit' and most of them still turned up in there though. :D
But it is indeed a tall order. The Serina subplot would be nice to restore but however it would clash chronologically with LPOTG though? But it would be great to see more of Doctor Paye, as he was seen only in the pilot and was only mentioned again by name one other time in War Of The Gods.
I imagine a Lost Planet Of The Gods fan edit could expand on some of the novel's extended plot points besides just editing back in the DVD deleted footage; like some of the colonial ships getting lost in the 'black void' but the Galactica continues on regardless, or a more elaborate look at Planet Kobol and the vastness of its city scapes and shape of the almost dead world, you could show Baltar's Cylon Baseship moving through the void behind the fleet, and of course your upgraded dogfight version of the Battle of Kobol between the Vipers and Cylon Raiders.
More ideas?
Anyways keep up the good work Mr Kerin.

I was looking through the deleted scenes and decided I may not work back in the Serina sick sub-plot. The quality is very raw, and I really don't think it adds much, as well as distracting from the Lost Planet of the Gods continuity. I think I'll remain happy that it did get included in the deleted scenes. Something years back I never thought would see the light of day.
So, I have started capturing the footage, and think I'll focus on enhancing/adding to what was there.
Kingjason, your list is in... my list. Will try to fulfill as many as possible. However in looking through the deleted scenes there are not alot I would put back in. Will watch them again to see. However I think Jolly's back hair should remain out of the cut. Maybe some of the card game parts though can work. Will have to try filling in the ambient noise of the crew quarters.
As for the Columbia, doesn't Vulpa say it was destroyed at the peace conference? Which in my mind places it within the fleet rather than around a home world. Still want to show it though. Will be a nice tie in to GOIPZ.
Also want to show the other worlds and cities in some way. Other Colonial defenses. We know the defense computers were sabotaged by Karibdus (sp?), so would be great to work in some communications chatter of the systems malfunctioning. Also have this image of a desert shot with a Borellian Noman looking into the sky as a basestar eclipses the sun.
Speaking of basestars, I would like to see them firing high powered energy beams from orbit to take out the cities.
Most of all, in no way will any visual, sound, music cue or element from the new series be utilized. I know it is a given, but just making sure this is purely for Battlestar Galactica.

Nah show no bias and put it in anyways. Its the warrior barracks, and if you add the deleted scenes you might as well show the extended stuff from the pilot anyhow? The card game, Zac's talk with his brother etc all minor but interesting scene extensions i found very pleasing. Warriors half dressed isn't too much to be shocked at even a 'hairy' Jolly of all things?
Also put in some of the cuts the DVD version of the pilot left out. Like the warrior on the Atlantia catching fire and Adama walking into the council chamber during the Carillion debate session. Can't understand why they were left out? But i'd like a fan edit to restore these minor clips for continuity sakes!
Adama trying to resign and step down as Commander, and the extended Athena scenes surely can be added back in?
As for the Columbia, doesn't Vulpa say it was destroyed at the peace conference? Which in my mind places it within the fleet rather than around a home world. Still want to show it though. Will be a nice tie in to GOIPZ.
Then treat it as mis-information on the Cylon's part. Not all reports from the front lines in war is always correct. But then again its your choice, If you add the Star Kobol* (Battlestar Kobol?) as well, it would be your choice to add it back in. According to the novel the Solaria was the last Battlestar destroyed, however too many fan additions could always weaken a great "fan edit", i say make logical additions and leave enough room for fan discussions. As you can't and won' be able to answer everything no matter how noble the intensions.
Man that sounds too sweet!
Speaking of basestars, I would like to see them firing high powered energy beams from orbit to take out the cities.
Big huge Robotech/Babylon 5 style lasers is what we need here! Would be great seeing the 'Green Laser shields' from "Experiment In Terra" being used by Colonial bases and planetary defences trying to defend the homeworlds before the Cylons really hammered them! (just to show that those shields were more common in "Colonial technology") Go all 'Halo' on it David.
We could also see the Battlestars and Baseships warping/jumping through hyperpsace. It might be a neat addition as well? Make it unique if you do. Like in that Star Wars fan movie IMPS relentless! (Although that was somewhat Babylon 5-ish influenced by the looks of it?)
You could even add a blur effect from the inside seeing everybody freeze for a few moments when the ships jump pass lightspeed as they make a hyperspace jump! The Lost In Space movie, Starchaser The Legend Of Orin and Wing Commander used that novel idea?
Hope all this helps some more.

P.S.
Also try to add that underneath shot of the Galactica and the Colonial Fleet from the Mission Galactica opening credits?
I've found it odd that some unique old style SFX shots only appeared in the telemovies and Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack? That and any other rarely seen SFX shot from the telemovies. A fan edit might look even more interesting than having too many CGI'ed effects although smart digital alterations can actually be great half the time.
Don't forget those beautiful Stu Phillips Battlestar Galactica full musical cues, both original and remastered soundtracks as well that you could add to a "Saga of A Starworld" fan edit.

Oh yeah, another thing to add would be Baltar's escape pod/shuttle from the Atlantia before its destruction!
It was always a question of how the hell did he escape from the Atlantia minutes/centons after the fleet was attacked by hordes of Cylons.
Speaking of hordes, got another few ideas to share out for Mr Kerin?
* Cylon Raiders ramming the Atlantia (remembered the picture from Maximum Press's comic "Journey's End" where the Pegasus was rammed by hordes of Cylon Raiders)
* Baltar's escape Pod fleeing the Atlantia (close ups of John Colicos face inserted in here will do)
* The other Battlestars taking heavy hits from the Cylon Raiders
* Lets see the Battlestars do more than just use laser turrets all the time. Can we see them briefly pulling off some combat maneuvers before the Cylons overwhelmed them? And also see their use of hardware and weaponry (Long range missles, guided close range homing torpedos, low grade force fields, holographic readouts on the bridge etc)
* Far more aggressive Cylons, i.e. more shots of Vipers being shot down, and their aim being way more accurate! Let see the Cylon raiders pulling off some frightening moves. According to the berkely novels the Vipers were much faster, however Cylon Radiers had the advantage in maneuverbility and the use of various bombs etc (i.e. the deleted subplot about the cancer caused by the bombing raids during the holocaust, Serina's illness)
* Supercylon Basestar using its death ray beam. And shots of its vast size. (Think The Empire Strikes Back and the vast shadow casued by the Superstardestroyer on the regular Stardestroyers?) That and make Richard Hatch proud!
* More detailed shots of Carrillion. Cities, factories, mining complexes, space ports, the colonial landing sites with more Landrams (scarabs), fueling shuttles and small colonial ships landing, and more CGI ovians working on Carillion mines from afar etc (the "matted" mine shot is still so ugly to this day?)
* Make the Ovions more frightening and intimidating almost 'beastial' like through use of altered sounds etc. Can you "blur" their movements somewhat like the first appearence of the "Drakh" messenger in season 4 of Babylon 5 for example? As the Ovions still look like cheesy Star Trek TOS first season aliens? they need a boost and maybe a BG "fan edit" can do so.
Finally...
* Digitally add the words "Translator" over the current "Languatron" device Captain Apollo holds in his hands??? (need i say more? :rotf: )
Thought i could add even more boss!
Tall orders ain't easy, but i thought i give you a few more things you may want to consider alot of, in the editing stages of your future 'fan movie' projects. All i can say for a WOTG's fan edit is don't forget the "Cloven Hooves"?
Have a good one.

Hey there LKJ... I was looking back through the "Jolly back hair scene" and I think I may try to do something with it. I love the scene where Zak is asking how Apollo drew partol with him, and Apollo comments how Zak graduated top of the class, but that seems like an "alternate" cut. It does not tie in with the previous setup with Starbuck to trick Apollo into allowing Zak to take the patrol. Great scene though.
Also love the shot of the Imperious Leader in the globe communicating with the centurion on Carrilon, but would have to find some ways to work the audio, and it is hard to fake Patrick McNee's voice.
Also thought about the "Star Kobol" that Serina reports about. Way back when I thought it was a planetary body of sort, but it could have been a space vessel where the treaty signing would have taken place. Would be great to see that go up. And if the novel says the Solaria goes up last, then dammit, it is going up last.
To cut in scenes from the movie version versus the pilot version I have the problem of going from wide screen to full, and i want to keep this full. I did notice though that it picks up in the middle of the scene in the pilot and we do not see Adama walking in. Odd I did not notice that before the other night.
Big energy beams is what I was thinking. Also thought it would be nice in the scene where Baltar is looking out over the ruins of Caprica to see a beam strike in the distance and a mushroom cloud rise up on the horizon. And a couple raiders fly by. But no frickin' nuclear missiles.
Afraid I can't do the energy shield. In the re-edit of Experiment in Terra I took that out as I always felt it just didn't go with the colonial technology. For whatever reason I just hated it. Although your suggestion of working it in here sounds great, but I guess in some strange way I have to keep consistent with my "re-edit" universe. It would be cool though. Maybe I have to think some more.
Stu's CD is close by. No worries there.
I'll also take a little more time on the CGI. Everything before was really for my enjoyment (oddly I really like compositing and editing) and the hopes someone else out there would like it. But I want to take some more time with this one. It may be my last so I want to do it right. Of course I say it may be my last, but Lords know I'll be looking at LPOTG after this.

By all means please try to do jaw dropping CGI like in that "IMPS Star Wars" fan movie and others like it.
Atlantia, Pacifica, Triton, Acropolis, Solaria, Columbia all gone but the Galactica? Cylon will surely have to be FAR MORE aggressive in your fan edit to do all that and destroy the Colonies. Who would think Adama ordering the ship to leave battle (as it was hopeless?) would save Galactica's ass down the line for so many years?
Could you also add in the wreckage of the fleet after the battle (kind of like 'Wolf 359' in Star Trek: TNG) with some of the Battlestar name plates drifting in space afterwards. Would bring a lot more meaning to Omega's line about them being the last Colonial "Battlestar" though!
Anyways i'll be busy doing my DVD of last weeks wedding so i won't be around for a few days, hope you like and will adapt many theories on here from not just me alone as others here have should neat ideas also for your 'SOASW' fan edit!
Make it good David Kerin! :)

I was thinking? What about reworking some of G80 SFX footage into Battlestar Galactica? If say you wanted to avoid using too much CGI.
As you already know in episodes like The Super Scouts and Space Cropper (or crapper if you prefer?) had new SFX added. I.E. the Viper launch sequence and scenes with only two Cylon pilots sitting up front in a Cylon Raider attacking and destroying a Gemini freighter in TSS and new shots of new young hotshot pilots with new Viper helmets featured in TSC. Smart re-editing and clever replacement of the SFX footage of the G80 space battle scenes. And you could end up having the Vipers launching from the colonies and military space stations instead, trying to defend the colonies and civilian transports from further Cylon attacks during the holocaust before the Galactica reached Caprica? Along with futher editing touch ups you could make out and extend the massive holocaust and space battle sequences, by covering alot of the plotholes and address several things that original pilot didn't get to back in 1978.
You could take some scenes from Fire In Space and show the destruction of the other Battlestars from the interior by playing around with the footage of the Galactica's bridge being rammed by Cylons from that episode? And make it out to be several of the other Battlestars "buying it" etc.
And don't forget to salvage SFX footage from the telelmovies and 'Conquest Of Space'. Like the rare unused "Viper launch sequence" from the opening credits in that Galactica 80 movie for example.
And what of extending the destruction of Carillion? I always figured a planet's destruction would have the chain-reaction building up soon as the tyilium caught fire straight off and that we'd see the planet slowly turning into a fireball as the final battle was taking place in space etc. Have The Galactica and its fleet warp out and jump into 'Hyperspace', as soon as the planet blew up (shockwave of the explosion would wipe out the Galactica and the rag tag fleet, if they were too close anyways) and have Starbuck and Apollo's Vipers being caught up in the "wake" of the fleet going into 'Hyperspace' as the explosion passes by and takes out any remaining Cylon Raiders that were left behind and got hit by Carillion's remains etc.

Kingjason, your list is in... my list. Will try to fulfill as many as possible.
Well if we add up that rather "tall order" what do we have here then?

You could even add a blur effect from the inside seeing everybody freeze for a few moments when the ships jump pass lightspeed as they make a hyperspace jump! The Lost In Space movie, Starchaser The Legend Of Orin and Wing Commander used that novel idea?
*As you already know in episodes like The Super Scouts and Space Cropper (or crapper if you prefer?) had new SFX added. I.E. the Viper launch sequence and scenes with only two Cylon pilots sitting up front in a Cylon Raider attacking and destroying a Gemini freighter in TSS and new shots of new young hotshot pilots with new Viper helmets featured in TSC.
I always figured a planet's destruction would have the chain-reaction building up soon as the tyilum caught fire straight off and that we'd see the planet turning into a fireball as the final battle was taking place in space etc.
Hmmmm? Yeah its sure is big alright but then again the Saga Of A Starworld was 3 major episodes of a science fiction pilot wrapped into one! It deserves a big ass major fan edit anyways! Good luck with it David. Don't hesitate to ask for more ideas either :D

Yet another set of ideas for the Battlestar Galactica Fan Edit! :D
The Battlestars, whether or not if you decide to add even more colonial warships like the Columbia and Solaria, who's appearence at Cimtar was always in question? I wonder if it would be possible to make subtle differences in their appearences should you choose to show us the different names of the Battlestars, being they always looked way too similar from each other onscreen.
Like Tom DeSanto's wishes for an upgraded BG to appear in his continuation series. would it be possible to add "Starblazer" type guns to the other ships, or to digitally 'remove' certain parts of the hull to show battle damage the other ships have suffered during the war with the Cylons over the years etc. perhaps you could darken or brighten up the hulls of the other Battlestars and also add their ship's insignia so fans can now see and tell which ship is which, besides the name plate on the sides of the launch tubes.
Perhaps each ship had their strengths and weaknesses in terms of weaponry, speed, manuverbility, force shield caperbility, age? etc. Even in a brief or extended space battle, are we going to see what they can do before they were destroyed? Deployed battle combat maneuvers as such.
Surely they had subtle differences in their design close up. Can digital tinkering make those changes in them? Or will you add your own CGI Battlestars into the pilot.
Other theories i've had.
* When Adama speaks with Adar on the Atlantia by the window, could we see several of the 'escort ships' passing by and moving in and out of the fleet near the other Battlestars in the distance?
* Could there also be added effects to make the fields and depth of outer space look more richer? By having say; a purple/redish haze of a nearby nebula or matter passing by from comets, or by adding more stars and distant planets/star systems, and black holes, seen from afar in the background for instance? Digital changes 'akin' to your Nomen sequence?
Space should be very vast in size, mind boggling practically! Lets see the ships in space moving against all kinds of 'eye candy' in the background.
I kinda want the feel of the ships in space making their journey through space and its filled will all kiinds of eye candy besides the "A-Typical" black background with white little dots being stars in the background etc? Can we have space in the fan-edit be like a "Planetarium" almost?!
* Have the camera angles of your additional CGI shots duck in and out of the action and views/passes of the ships while traveling through space etc. Match them up to some of the SFX shots from 1978. so you can spice up the action a little more or extend certain shots by tracking the movement of some vessels/ships as they pass nearby.
* Increase, add and mix up some of the sound effects and soundtrack cues in this new re-edit cut of yours. This should be an enhancement of the original Galactica pilot but also add something new sounding in this recut by adding additional Stu Phillips music, enhancing sound effects hardly heard in the original cut (doors sliding open, lasers being fired, low sounding folley effects, radio chatter news of the other Battlestars etc) and adding all new ones? (which ever ones you feel is appropriate etc.)
* Extend the Exodus scene. Can we get the scope and feel of more than a few ships fleeing during the montage sequence of the great colonial exodus during Adama's voice over!
* Extend the trek through the Nova Madagon. Far more mines being destroyed and seeing way more ships nearly hitting the mines Apollo, Starbuck and Boomer missed (only 3 vipers clearing a path for a fleet that big? surely they missed alot more). Also add the footage from Mission Galactica, of the Battlestar Pegasus turrets destroying the mines in Baltar's trap? (Which was really unused shots of the Galactica's laser turrets destroying the mines from the pilot anyhow)
* If you can possibly add CGI Cylon Centurions (via any PC/Mac program) or tweak the live action footage of the Cylons. To have the Cylons run, jump, shoot and move about like soldiers or be that machines hell bent on destruction! Rather than the static slow movements of the Cylons in the pilot episode as we saw them in 1978. And add alot more of them via CGI duplications in the background and some areas of the foreground. Perhaps mining the ore of Carillion and watching over the Ovion workers, while waiting to strike.
* Change the colour of the new Imperious Leader's chamber in epilogue by darkening it to a dark blue shade instead of light orange/yellow? Much like Peter Jackson had Pippin find Merry after the Battle of Pellennor Fields in LOTR: Return Of The King from the day time in the theatrical to after dark in the night, as in the actual Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King book.
Hope you can check out the recent "Star Wars insider" magazine David Kerin. As it addresses in an article, the differences in the Star Wars special editions to that of the upcoming original Star Wars trilogy on DVD this September! hopefully it can give you more insight into making digtial changes to your Galactica fan re-edit.
Once again i hopes these further suggestions can help you out a little more.

http://www.reference.com/browse/wiki/Battlestar
Hmmmm? interesting link, got some of the old info we already know about but its new one i haven't seen about.
Hope it helps some more David Kerin, if you intend to add extensions of the other Battlestars and work out their fates along with the Galactica bridge's radio chatter playing in the background. And work out their fates somewhat like how they were each destroyed? Kamikazi attacks by multiple Cylon Raiders ramming into a Battlestar, implosion from the ship's reactor core going nuclear, bombardment from Cylon Raider's dropping fusion bombs (see the novels?), massive hull breach/split etc!
I see that site also addresses the whereabouts of the Columbia as most fans tend to pick up on? Seems putting her at the shipyards is a novel idea afterall and i see that i'm not the only fan to think along those lines.
Anyways just some more food for thought chief!

Having a Battlestar in a dock around one of the colonial planets sounds like a good idea because i doubt the Colonials would put all their battlestars in the one spot and plus with the war going on i suspect they would of dropped a Battlestar or two to the remote colonies to patrol until the treaty is signed

:D Yes i did , just not for the pilot is all but WOTG! Hooves, demon corpses the whole flames of dante deal etc. ;)

Exactly why David Kerin is practically doing Battlestar Galactica version of the Star Wars special edition (Minus any ridiculous Greedo shooting first thing) to fix up, enhance and expand the original grand vision. Which is why fixing plotholes like the Battlestars destruction, getting a look at the other colonies, giving the Cylons the "killer edge" they needed which ABC and 'Standards and Practices' took away, adding advance "hi-def level looking" CGI/SFX enhancements and deleted scenes back into the cut of the pilot and addition Stu Phillips music. Is what'll make this Galactica SE version a true extension of what probably Glen Larson and director Richard Colla wanted from the 1978 version if they had all the current advancemnts in special effects and CGI technology elements and more time to work with back then?
Hopefully David Kerin's BG-SE fan edit cut, along with any helpful ideas from Galactica fans will push this into the fan edit community and out there for general downloading and be seen by fans and movie buffs alike and be enjoyed all the more.
Maybe even Larson will come across it or hear about it and say to himself Now thats what i've always envisioned my Galactica to be like, THAT kinda epic sci-fi tale told in space! etc. Even if a "fan edit" is unofficial! Gives us a grand look at the "what if" scenario doesn't it!
KJ
P.S. Yup its time for KJ's fan edit suggestion of the day. David, what about a version thats for DVD burning? with menus and a few bonus materials? TV spots, commercials etc, pilot script, Stu Phillips BG soundtracks, TV rare telemovie footage in a deleted scenes section, deleted scenes from the pilot you didn't add back in etc, tons of photos from the series, photos from BG: The Second Coming and DeSanto's unproduced Galactica, the foundation trailer clip. (ask Commander Taggart if he's converted my tape yet that i gave him. Its got Galactica "goodies" on it! ;) )
Make it as big as you want on DVD (people these days have the PC program "DVD shrink" anyhow) and add animated menus, 5.1 or 2.0 audio tracks, the works!
(I hope the 'tall order' hasn't morphed into Mission Impossible for ya! :D )

I've been converting these to xvid purely for size. I do have these as DVD versions with a menu, although a simple title menu, no extras or anything. I could always upload those at some point, however we're looking at a 4+gig ISO disk image upload versus 350mb xvid avi.
Maybe for the Saga version, I'll do more with a menu. Would people be patient enough to download that large a file?
KJ

Well speaking for myself here. Yup i can, considering the amount of space my hard drives offer and the speed i've got, a DVD of "Saga" the with menus would be dandy for me anyways.
Sorry to hear there's no extras as of yet but i suppose you can do that much later on as the real fan special edition that you'd have in mind!

Well like i said ask, Commander Taggart for those TV spots of BG from the sci-fi channel cos i gave him plenty.

Seriously getting back to the topic at hand.
A few more suggestions!
* Make the Galactica's ship engines a 'tint' of blue? With some vapor trails coming out in some shots. Just to add that feel of movement a little more from these large vessels. Perhaps some of the Viper engines burn could be different from one another, rather than having a "white hue" simulate the burning of the engine all the time lets see some engines turning orange-ish (i.e. burning alot of fuel) or blue-ish hue (i.e. burning alot of turbo power etc) little subtle hints here and there etc. Shots of the civilian ships firing up their engines or add all new or beefed up original sounds effects of the Rag Rag fleet ships would also be a big bonus.
* Just like in several animes like Macross and Gundam. Could we see all kinds of camera angles. Tilting the image screen of some side passing shots to a different perspective almost to give an upwards or downwards kind of effect and momentum to the ships moving in space besides having a side view all the time of the ships or onesided look at their movements in space.
* What about adding that "super-cylon" Raider from G80. Perhaps the Cylons had a few regular ones in their fleet but hardly used them. You could re-edit it to look like it was on the "Supercylon Basestar" (figures?) and was dispatched to lead the assault and destroy the colonial military spacestations or outposts in orbit around several of the Colonies and nearby Vipers were ordered to intercept it etc. One two seated Viper (the one in G80) iwth two brave warriors was lucky enough to ram it after most of the squardon was destoryed by its superior firepower, and it went crashing into the atmosphere and was destroyed by the "laser batteries" of one of the Colonies defense mechanism. All you'd have to do is remove the two 'humanoid Cylons' from the cockpits from G80 is all and you've more footage to play around with?
* Don't forget to add some kind of 'FTL drive', 'Hyperdrive', 'Warp system' to the capital ships! Kind of show that fighter ships caught in its wake are also transported along with them. Vipers and Raiders may move at lightspeed or sub-light but the larger vessels do posess "faster then light drives" which explains how they move from one place to another from star-system to star-system. Yet Vipers and Raiders are used to go on regular patrols to scout out uncharted planetary systems and do recon work or are ordered to attack and destroy targets in small or large numbers at sub-light speeds?
The ships travel to different star-systems but the fighter crafts travel within them.
Thus no more arguements about how ships in Battlestar Galactica move about from place to place whenever lightspeed is mentioned by a character!
Hopes these help a little more chief!

I really support David's work on these special editions.
An idea if I may.
If/When creating new CGI of the destruction of the Battlestars, and Base Stars attacking the colonies, as well as the Saga S.E. please can you also edit these together as a stand-alone piece.
I would LOVE to include it on my site. I can't include the special editions for obvious copyright reasons, but a stand-alone fanfilm of the rest of the battle of Cimtar and Colonies would be a great addition.
If you're doing the work already, please consider this further idea - I'd love to showcase it on my site !

I'ld like to see the others you’ve done, like “Return of starbuck”.
I’ve gone so far as to register and was able to download “Hand of God”.
When I went back I couldn’t download anything and they still haven’t sent me my registration info.
Is this normal or did I mess up somewhere?

Maybe check back and try registering again.

You know, the other day i was thinking about what Baltar said in Lost Planet Of The Gods. About himself being trapped between the president's Battlestar and his own. Not that it was ever made clear in any Galactica episode but isn't the rumor in fandom that Baltar was from Picon? (Thus it was the Picons who made false progress reports from the mining experdition about Carillon) And his Battlestar may have been the Battlestar Pacifica?
I don't suppose on the bridge you could add a hologram showing the ship commander's names of the other Battlestars and their status. You know made up generic names of the other commanders next to Adama, Adar and Baltar etc?
A readout showing the other vessel's progress via hologram
* Battlestar Atlantia. Commander - President Adar - current status "Destroyed"
* Battlestar Galactica. Commander Adama - current status "Active"
* Battlestar Pacifica. Commander Count Baltar - current status "unknown" reports of massive hull breach near edge of scanner range?
* Battlestar Titon. Commander [Insert generic Commander's name?] - current status "destroyed" due to engine implosion!
* Battlestar Acropolis. Commander [Insert generic Commander's name?] - current status "ship abandoned due to heavy onboard fires"
* Battlestar Solaria. Commander [Insert generic Commander's name?] - current status "power loss and suffering heavy damage"
* Battlestar Columbia. Commander [Insert generic Commander's name?] - current status "destroyed" last reported ramming a Supercylon Basestar!
* Various names of the escort ships and their commander's names and current status etc.
* Colonial shipyards destroyed. 8 Battlestars obilterated! Survivors regrouping.
* Colonial starbases 1 to 8 destroyed by Cylon invasion armada!
* Holographic readout showing Cylon Raider squadrons performing multiple "Cylon Pinwheel" attacks on bases, cilvilian ships, home planets in massive numbers. Perhap show a whole squadron of Raiders doing the spin wheel attack one after another (more then just 3 Raiders etc).
Then add a made up casualty list afterwards etc.
A shot or two of Baltar's escape pod/shuttle going to the Battlestar Pacifica, only for its "hyperdrive" to fail (i.e. Baltar's crew paying a heavy price etc) and visual signs of ship's 'hull breach' or whatever you envision its fate to be David Kerin, would be a nice touch. Forcing Baltar to make alternate plans and escape altogether from the battle.
Just a few more minor attention to detail ideas from me chief. Figured making the colonial holocaust epic in every way and covering all bases would help out. If your CGI and editing programs are advanced enough, i guess i'd be crazy enough to ask if you can add the alternate designs of the Viper Helmet ornaments to the other Viper pilots from the other Battlestars and home colonies bases. but that all depends whether or not you have most of the designs from various BG books and fan interpretations etc. And time to make all those minor additions (perhaps for a later SOASW edit eh?). I was watching some CGI transitions on DVD of various effects filmmakers put on several effect scenes in a movie last night that i was watching. Minor stuff i'm sure anyone make given enough time and practice if they were to do that for their own movie, so i thought i'd be good to bring it to your attention is all.
Adding all new sound effects, new visual effects, Stu Phillips BG music cues and colour corrections to the deleted and possibly restored in your cut, scenes would be challenging enough anyhow. Guess before this gets out of hand i'll call it a day and say you've got enough on your plate. but i thought i'd hand out this last one anyways for completion sakes.
I wish you good fortune doing your 'fan-edit' cut David.
KJ
P.S. Don't forget to add alots of hologram effects to the Battlestar bridge and Imperious Leader's Chamber scenes. Via taking footage, making it "cubed" and transparent and placing it around a character while taking/viewing something onscreen. Ya know, game cutscenes, several shots from DeSanto's Foundation clip and other fan movies might make for good expansions on reports being viewed by several characters in the pilot while watching a battle take place or being advised on current regular updates etc. And a few alterations of colour timing, audio and sound effects with your additions would certainly be interesting to add up here. A solar flare ( via computer effects) showing the glint of sun light reflecting off the viper cockpits' glass or as a ships passing by in a "beauti-pass" by the camera, would be a nice touch to show some background effects adding some favor to the scenes now.
Along with spicing up the background of the 'space field' by adding in all kinds of colours and particles of matter floating out there besides just having plenty of stars in space.
I also hope its possible to make the laser effects look as "cel shaded" as possible so they blend more easily with the older "cel-shaded" laser SFX of 1978. Even if you add huge gigantic "Babylon 5 style" pulsar lasers to the Colonial Battlestars and Cylon Baseships.
Cheers!

I was thinking too about Baltar and the Battlestar line. In the world of Galactica, I think Adama was the only council member to also be Commander of a Battlestar. He is the only one in uniform, marking the others a pure politicians. I believe the other Battlestars all had Commanders of their own which we did not see. The Atlantia was (in my mind) not commanded by Adar. There would have been an (unseen on screen) commander over the military battlestar. Since they were on the peace mission they were carrying the political delegates of their colonies which would technically out rank their commanders. So on the Atlantia, Adar, as the president, had final say over the actions taken on the battlestar, as would the other council members on their homeworld battlestars.
This would also add to the explanation on only Adama launching Vipers in time as he was both the council member and military commander. The others would have been forced to follow the orders of their council leaders, no matter what their colonial commanders wanted. And the other council members would have followed Adar no matter what. You hope some of the commanders would have eventually ignored the politicians and launched.
As for the re-edit, thinking of how to work in Baltar's escape. Don't know if that would take away from his entrance to the IL chamber later on. Thinking about it though.
Progress wise have most of the additional colony destruction in. Have to still do sound and editing, but most rendered out.

It would make sense that the Council members would be in command of the Battlestars over Colonial commanders because the Civilian Government can take over Military directives...........for example President Bush is in charge of the United States armed forces, what he says goes the military has to follow
Sounds like the editing is going really well, i can't wait for it since i always wanted to know what force destroyed almost the entire Colonial Fleet and the wiped out the defences of all 12 colonies

You hope some of the commanders would have eventually ignored the politicians and launched.
Well eventually they did considering Rigel's line to Colonel Tigh about the surviving Viper squadrons after the Battle Of Cimtar! But its a pity Colla and Larsen didn't feature any bridge footage of the other Battlestar commanders confering with each other and blowing off their governing colony's officials telling them they're under attack when the Cylons came storming in. During peace negociations sure civillian councilors are in command no matter what. But then the Cylon's attack you can bet military commander's are in charge no matter what, after all that is what they're trained and live for: "warfare" the treaty wasn't genuine as all fears were confirmed, and most Battlestar commander's were totally unprepared and thus were probably cursing their civillian leaders as the flames spewed around them as Cylon bombs and lasers bombarded their ship's hull etc.
Thus that bring us back to Rigel's line about Vipers from other ships landing on the Galactica! Surely some brave fortunate souls did launch from the Pacifica, Triton, Atlantia and Acropolis (and possible escort ships) besides the Galactica's pilots, survived and landed later on the Galactica? If David's cut shows the Solaria and Columbia's Viper and shuttle survivors and all, then thats even more that all flocked to the Galactica afterwards.
As for the re-edit, thinking of how to work in Baltar's escape. Don't know if that would take away from his entrance to the IL chamber later on. Thinking about it though.
Well you could have Baltar being launched in a Viper after he killed a warrior and stole it to get away from the Atlantia, and its reported via radio transmission i.e. 'fleet com alpha' to the other ships. Although i'm not a fan of audio fan dubs added to existing work as it sounds way out of place? Although if you took existing words used by characters and re-edited them, you could have a minor line stating Count Baltar's shuttle's is fleeing the battlefield, the Cylon's aren't attacking his shuttle, picking up radio chatter, Cylon transmissions being communicated through Baltar's transmitter etc...
Stuff from the series re-worked for a minor line of dialogue here?
Sounds like the editing is going really well, i can't wait for it since i always wanted to know what force destroyed almost the entire Colonial Fleet and the wiped out the defences of all 12 colonies
Same here Aussie Warrior
Great minds and fans think alike. We're a little bloodthirsty i guess asking for more destruction with human life and all. But i think we've all wondered that same situation for years about the pliot episode and it needs a more realistic re-paint job here 'special edition-wise' and it could very well extend the drama of the colonial holocaust and increase the need for these characters to pick up the pieces and to search and begin a quest for a new home. Names of the other ships, what exactly happened on the other colonies etc. Stuff an official BG special edition of the pilot should've emerge from Universal round about now nearly 30 years onwards. David Kerin won't add all the suggestions in, that i can live with (i hope) but i'm damn sure of one thing.
Dave won't disappoint, i'm sure we'll be blown away with whatever he's got planned for everybody who's ever enjoyed Battlestar Galactica to begin with on some level. As the other fan edits he's done have already testified to. Saga Of A Starworld made even more longer, epic and grand?! oh boy.

P.S. Hope the Ovians are made to be more scary? And the Cylons wayyyyyyyyy more aggressive and evil (better aim and piloting skills) (see earlier list ;) )

The Vipers from the other ships indicate that the battle must not of been a swift victory for the Cylons.............the other Battlestars probably didn't have any Vipers in their launch tubes because there was no alert status and no doubt it would of taken some time to get some squadrons fueled, armed and into the launch tubes unless in desperation some taken off without being properly armed and fueled
I seen in a deleted scene from the episode "Gun on Ice Planet Zero" that Adama introduced an officer who lead a rear guard action against the Cylons, i wonder if Galactica assisted in the battle for Caprica or just arrived to evacuate people................i know it wouldn't fit anywhere but it would be nice to see some action of a air battle with Colonial Shuttles and various craft taking off while being covered by Vipers and ground fire perhaps just before Adama's narration of the ships evacuating or something
Something that has gotten my attention while doing all the reading on the original movie is that the Galactica and the fleet went on an alert when Athena and Adama were on a shuttle returning from the gathering that President Adar held on Atlantia then as we know Adama after being refused permission to launch Vipers to assist Zac and Apollo, ordered a battle drill when he became convinced it was Cylons coming....................so i am very curious if any action was taken when the alert came in

While I will certainly try what I can, some things are hard to create from what is or is not there. Making Cylons better aims when the live footage has little people being hit, that may be difficult. Maybe there are misc shots of people being hit I can work through, we'll see. Ovions more scary, have to think on that one. You mentioned the Drakk blur effect, but I was not partial to that effect in B5, and it looks like the producers dropped it shortly after. Will try something with them.
Other emblems on Viper helmets, would be cool, but far beyond me. That would be tracking and masking a 3d element on an actual person with their natural movements. Could make one fly over a coo-coo nest. But it does have my mind wondering of other ways to represent the other surviving pilots. We'll see. No guarantees.

Yeah i kinda figured that Drakh effect would be perfect for the Ovions, making them move in a more alien like fashion and skipping a few frames might make'em more creepy. For the record i think there were more than one kind of Drakh in B5, the first was a large warrior type or scout. The others were more slender in appearence but i take it there were others of their kind.
As for the Viper helmet ornaments, heh perhaps in another cut i suppose. But surely the Cylons can get a visual targeting system like the Vipers. The R1 BG DVD does have unique unused shots of Vipers and Raiders though, abeit without sound and in some cases with a voiceover in the documentaries. And just like your recut of "The Return Of Starbuck" you could add your own effects in there. I'm in agreement with Aussie Warrior although the pace of the pilot has us believing the Cylon victory was near flawless, its wasn't without its huge drawbacks. They didn't expect the Galactica to launch their fighters, and surely even some of the unprepared ships finally launched Vipers that fought and survived the Battle Of Cimtar.
To destroy a fleet then a dozen colonies with billions of lives? on each one, with of course home defenses, bases, space stations etc. The Cylons had to have been very aggressive in their assaults and invasion to do all that.
Cylons with a 'killer edge' to them would definitely be a head turned!

Heres an interesting thing........in the Hand of God, Starbuck mentioned that the mission had better odds than they had fighting at Caprica to which Boomer said that they lost at Caprica so i assume that the Galactica got to Caprica and Starbuck and Boomer had engaged the Cylons in combat
There are so many holes that we could go into and we know Dave cannot fill them all in but the admirable thing is that he is trying and i hope many people will get to see the results............i'll be doing my best to ensure that happens maybe a article will reach Trekunited since alot of productions are covered and a fan edit would be a first for us to cover and expand the reach into more Science Fiction

Well I'm definately going to try all I can. Albiet, as I work through the story, I don't want to take away too much from the pace of the original story as I think it works pretty well. But where possible, I do want to flesh out the "scope" of things happening. However I must say, that as much as I added to the destruction of the colonies, I don't know if enough would ever really show the destruction of a civilization.
I have basestars firing high energy beams from orbit, in conjunction with the raiders, but it still seems like alot for them to wipe out 12 worlds. As with the original, and although showing more, it may still come to the extent of accepting the story, because there will always be room for doubt about the attacking force.
I do have an internal reason as to why these basestar energy beams were not used against the Pegasus or Galactica in later eps. They actually require an atmospheric body in a close proximity to achive the proper energy peak and release of the concentrated energy beam. Any battle between two capitol ships in the vacuum of space would have to happen without these energy beams. Although if a smaller class Colonial war ship was in a high atmospheric orbit and caught between the planet and the attacking basestars, then it may be taken out by these concentrated energy beams. Hint, hint.
Once I get the sound effets edited in, then I may put the segment on youtube. Not sure if I should though as I don't want to show everything of the re-edit.

Great to hear of Aussie Warrior!
May i suggest other places like http://www.fanedited.com/ to get any major promotion of Mr Kerin's 'fan-edit' work out there to film fans and sci-fi buffs!
Wanna see this project with its own DVD cover and extras. Although as Dave says, not for this one but perhaps for a updated fan-edit version cut of 'Saga', i.e. v.2?

Only goes to show that Larsen and Colla's vision of Galactica was so big that even they didn't think about covering all their 'bases' far as plot goes, at the time. Don't worry about it, long as you attempt to cover most things i'm pretty sure people will appreaciate your efforts here David!
However, far as other elements of your re-edit of 'Saga' goes. I wonder if you'll add a nod to Star War's very own 97 special edition and put in a "fiery ring" as Carillion explodes as the Galactica and fleet 'Warp' out of harm's way! (see my list ;) )
I could never understand how the Galactica could be so close to an explosion of a planet, that Adama didn't order it out of harm's way along with the fleet. would be nice to see the ship jump out of the way as the debris destroys the remaining Cylons nearby. While the Galactica fleet and two Vipers that got stucked in the hyperspace-jump? got away just in time.
I think the end of the pilot is just as important as the beginning of mankind's fall, don't you?

Does anybody know while we're on the subject about fan edits who made the Direct-to-DVD trailer on CFF?

In a way i think its a damn shame some sequences from the pilot that were said have been filmed at on time or other didn't turn up on the Battlestar Galactica DVD deleted scene section at all.
1) Like the scene with Adama and Athena before the mission to pass the Nova Madagon inwhich Adama corrects Athena's choice of words putting her concerns of Starbuck with whom she broke up with, over her own brother's, Captain Apollo. They also refered to the Cylon Alliance in their conversation, much Adama did in one of his monologues during the colonial exodus.
2) Another scene thats said to have existed was a scene on Carillion after both Cassiopea and Athena ditch Starbuck after their arguement. A female Boray was supposed to have seen and given Starbuck the 'eye' thinking she had a chance with him next!
3) And of course one of the most talked about scenes not on the DVD discs when the BG DVD hit nearly 3 years ago. Was Starbuck storming the Galactica bridge demanding to know why Adama pulled out from the battle. which was basically an extension of Tigh and Omega's scene finding out the Galactica was the sole remaining colonial Battlestar left after the Battle Of Cimtar? (before the scene in the finished pilot movie actually cuts to Starbuck's Viper in trouble coming in for a crash landing etc)

We don't know why some of the other we've heard about aren't on the DVD's of TOS Battlestar Galactica. But either they no longer exist or they were in pretty bad shape and possibly couldn't be remastered to be placed on the DVD's, as we've all long gone over this in discussions for the past few years of how just about nearly everything every scrap of footage must have been put on the Galactica DVD's that was found more or less? If they still do, its a pity they weren't put on the DVD's at the last minute, cos for a recut such as this, they'd be sweet to see reinstated back into 'Saga Of A Starworld' and expand upon the pilot a little more!
Especially hearing of how Starbuck stormed the bridge confronting Colonel Tigh in a dramatic demanding manner and being shown the footage of the 'colonial holocaust' for himself and his fellow pilots to witness. This probably was one of the unseen deleted scenes the 2003 DVD release should have had the most out of all things! As it might have been cut and left out of the 2003 DVD cos it featured more horrific images of the Cylon's assault on the colonies which Colonel Tigh was showing the pilots.
In truth, we've heard alot of things over the years about how Richard Colla's vision of Galactica was pared down by Glen Larsen a considerable lot. And how so many changes we made to the pilot. Alan Levi took over filming from Colla after 28 days didn't he, due to disagreements and differences of opinion on how the saga of Galactica should be set? The scene is practically the full longer version of a scene started in the pliot which was not only pared down but for unknown reasons altered in editing (scene cuts to Starbuck's viper in trouble?) and placed before said character (Starbuck) actually lands to confront Colonel Tigh to begin with. I take it, this was Alan J Levi's decision to redit stuff Richard Colla had done when he came onboard under Glen Larsen's orders or even by the ABC execs etc. Colla only directed the pilot which leaves enough room of doubt on the issue right there. Although its certainly was a surprise to see Colla talk so candid and happily on the DVD documentary of BG and on how he enjoyed filming it none the less. His memories of filming John Colicos saying he literary had to be pulled down from the sets cos he such a dramatic theatre performer and actor, certainly was a joy to behold and listen to on the DVD documentary of the series.
