I am debating going to Comic Con this year. I had decided not to but it sounds like a lot of my fellow warriors are going. Who all of us is going? Anyone going in uniform? Do we know what Galactica people will be there?

Nay, my Battlestar Film...which has not been completely cast yet...is sucking all my time and dollars. I'll do the con thing next year dressed in Cylon armor promoting my film

I will be attending the ComicCon. It so happens that I live in the San Diego area. If anyone has any questions about the area or are in need of info, I might be able to help those at Fleets that are going. I will double check to make sure I listed my e-mail address so anyone who wants to PM me, can do so. It would be a blast to get a good size group to represent Fleets there. :salute:

I'm plannning on going. I need to get my con membership sorted out - the prices go up after the first week in June. I need to also get the hotel situation taken care of - pickings are looking rather slim already. The closest hotel with currently available rooms is 3 miles from the con and does not have shuttle service - it's a good thing I'm driving down.

Sounds like a lot of us will be there. Let's all try to meet for dinner or drinks or something.
Can everyone who is going reply to this thread with the dates that they will be there?
I will get there Thursday afternoon. I fly out early on Sunday morning. I think several of us may be working booths. Maybe we should shoot for an initial meeting on Thursday night, before things get crowded and nuts.
Ideas?

I'll be there. Just tell me when and where you guys want to hook up.
I had hoped to have a costume ready, but I would actually bet money against it now. I was foolinsh and promised to help some guys with a low budget sci-fi movie by making a monster suit for them. Its gonna take up all my spare time before then.
Sadly, or perhaps happily, I was at a fabrc warehouse on Saturday and found REAL Bridge Blue ULTRASUEDE for (get this!!!)
$14.95 a yard!!!
They had the warrior tan ultrasuede too, but I don't want to make a tan outfit. The blue, however, will make a perfect ultrasuede battlejacket in blue (officer's feild battlesuit).
I'm making the uniform out of something else, though. Just the jacket will be ultrasuede. I don't want to sweat into ultrasuede!! Slimy!!! ICK!!!

I think that we should all make an effort to wear something TOS each day. It does not need to be a uniform. A T-shirt will do. When I last went 2 years ago, there were a few TOS CWs and it made quite an impression. No GINO costumes or T-shirts were anywhere to be found.

I do wish I had a Warriors uniform. If I had one I would certainly wear it. You could bet your bottom cubit on that. I've been mulling over getting a Blue Squadron insignia patch tattooed on my upper arm. Then I'd never be out of uniform!
Say KamikazeAthena, you said you attended the Con 2 years ago. We may have met. Did you attend Hatch's BG panel that year?

I'm still planning on driving down to San Diego for the con and I'm taking both Friday and Monday off in conjunction, so I have time to travel and still spend a couple of days at the con. I wouldn't mind meeting up with some of you folks, but I think that I've passed the "uniform at a con" stage, but I'll be happy to take pics of those that do....
As long as I get to meet Tom DeSanto and anyone else I can get a pic and an autograph from.....it'll be worth the trip!

I will be attending Wednesday evening/night (preview night), Thursday, Friday and maybe Saturday (stamina permitting). It would be great to get together sometime, somewhere (at the Con, bite to eat, drinks). We should probably set up some kind of rally point and time to meet up at. Any ideas?
Hello Gemini1999. As I am driving to the Convention Center as well, I know from previous Cons that it's almost next to impossible fo find AFFORDABLE parking anywhere NEAR the Conv. site. This may sound a little extreme but it has it's advantages, believe me. My friend from Phoenix does this now. Get to the Con site at about 6:30 or 6:45 am (Yawn...this is a must if it's a Sat. or Sun.) You will get into the underground parking structure at the Con. The price is, if I recall, $10.00.
Find yourself a parking spot and crash out for 1 to 1.5 hours. You can park there for that day and evening, provided your car doesn't leave the structure. It's very accessable. You can drop things off at your car throughout the day so you don't have to lug around all the stuff that you may have accumulated. I pack a lunch and eat and rest up a little. It's also a little cooler inside as well. Just thought I would lend a helpful tip, if you are interested.

There is NEVER a complete guest list for Comic Con, since famous people just keep showing up!
My wife ran into Gene Simmons a few years ago. He hit on her while he had three other chicks hanging on his arms.
I ran into the guy who's on Crossing Jordan, Miguel Ferrer. He was there just hanging out with his son looking at cool stuff in Artist Alley. They seemed to be having a good time so I didn't talk with him... I figured he would have preferred to be left alone to enjoy the con with his kid.
But they also have a HUGE area where famous folks just sit at tables all day long and sign autographs. I got Erin Gray's autograph several years ago... even after I inadvertently insulted her. I walked up and said, "Yeah, I'm one of those dorky guys who thought you were the ultimate babe on Buck Rogers." It didn't come out right, but she understood what I meant. She was very gracious.
Oh yeah, and then there was when we almost met that guy who played Frodo Baggins... Elijah Wood. He and several WETA guys came in and stood right in front of us while we were trying to watch the special presentation of LOTR. They just stood there in front of us. We almost called security since we had no idea who they were until the lights came up. Then we saw who they were. They had come in the "wrong way" and we thought they were just some jerks who sneaked in without waiting in line. I guess if you're gonna be blocked from seeing a movie presentation that you stood in line for 2 hours to see, you can't do any better than to be blocked by the guys who made the film. I guess.
And, of course, if you're a fan of just about any comic book artist, you should be able to meet and talk with them there. The place is lousy with comic guys. You'd think it was a comic book show or something!
I look forward to going. I haven't been in several years and I hear they've pretty much doubled the size since I was last.

I am thinking that Thursday night might be best for an official gathering as things will be calmer than they will on Friday or Saturday. Friday could work as well.
Steve, got any ideas where we could all meet? At the con might be easiest but maybe there is a bar or something nearby? (Leave it to me to suggest a bar!)

Being a voluntary non-drinker and all around dim-bulb, I'd prefer a restaraunt or combo bar/restaraunt if possible.
Or maybe we could all hook up for a great meal of chips, nachos and corn dogs at the ubiquitous convention food stand! LOL!!

We should be an interesting contrast. I drink and would not touch convention food. I know Michael (Blue Squad) drinks and his eating sounds more flexible than mine. I am sure he will join us. Sounds like a resturant or a combo place is the way to go.
Alright Steve. Bring us some options please. :)

That was ABSOLUTELY a joke. I won't eat convention hall food unless there is absolutely no other option.
Jennifer and I are far too fond of food to cheapen the experience that way! LOL!!
As for drinking, its just something I never got into. Never had a problem with it. And now that middle age has crept up ever so silently, I find my resistance to alcohol's effects (during and after) are minimal. I used to drink whenI worked at the Renn Fest, but I just don't like being hung over... and even one drink is enough to put me there. So I just don't imbibe.

I't's good to be remembered. :) How have you been? Hey, love the blaster. You didn't have that in 2004.
I agree, Thursday we should at least get together somewhere at the Con to see how many of us there are. Then we can determine who wants to do what, where to go and when. I suggest Thursday morning in the Sail Pavillion as a meeting place, near the autograph area perhaps? They usually stack everyone near there before they turn everyone loose downstairs. It would be easier to locate folks there than after they unleash the hoards o' people. If that doesn't work, we could all meet at a pre-arranged booth downstairs at a certain time, say 10:30ish to get together.
I'm thinking dinner after the Con would be great. A place to unwind and talk about the days exploits. (and a place for Dy to pound down a few!) :D :duck: After the day is done, I could go for a few myself. There are a number of eateries in the downtown area (I'll need to brush up on locations as I don't get downtown too often) or we could travel a short distance to Mission Valley and partake of some venues there. I, for one, would be willing to carpool/taxi those who are without transportation, if this were the case. My truck can carry a few if needed. I'm game for whatever is decided upon, however. If anyone has some other suggestions or questions, fire away. :salute:

I'll second the idea of the panel meeting, KA. Catching an earlier flight might be wise. You could be cutting it a little tight getting to the panel if your flight arrives at 10:00. Paging idea was kind of a joke, but after re-thinking, could be done by saying "Attention All Colonial Fleets Members, please report to ....(example: sail pavillion, lost and found, wherever we want to gather) " for all those who are not able to make it to the panel. Yay! Can't wait to see you all! :bounce:

2 seats it is. Near or at the front, middle-isle seats. Just got back from preview night (4-day pass members) and it was PACKED! Beware of long lines and lots of people. Oh, BTW, we're goin' through a bit of a heat wave here. It's cooled off some, but it's still pretty warm and humid (there's AC inside of course). So dress accordingly. Safe journeys to all and I'll see those who are attending tomorrow. :salute:

Well Brian and I just got home from the Con and I know that several fleets members are till there.
The nutshell:
Fleets Attendees: Monolith21, CBSG4ever, BlueSquad, WarriorChemist, Dilbertman, spcglider, AlternityOrange, and Max Cervantes (sorry but I forgot your handle). Just about all of us managed to get to the same place at the same time and pics will be posted later.
Richard's Panel - Well, it was mostly GINO and he was going to show the Magellan trailer until someone (who is not known to be a Fleets member) asked to see the Second Coming trailer and the crowd pressured Richard into it. He said he was surprised that people still cared. Rest assursed, he know knows better! The response was overwhelming!
Transformers booth - Nothing really new there. A cool large transformer statue was present.
Autographs - Richard and Herb both signed. Both were very sweet. From Richard we learned that Redemption is a 2 parter and he said we WILL see part 2 in some way shape or form. We told Herb about the "Who would you chose as your wingman?" thread and the overwhelming number of responses that stated that Boomer was the man. He seemed truely touched.
Continuation - Richard and Tom both still want it and love how we inspire them and keep them going. They are still determined to "get the old girl out of drydock." No big news though. Tom did see me in uniform and did state that I "have a special place in his heart right now" and that I had no idea how much seeing that meant to him.
Bragging - Thanks to BlueSquad, some of us had the fortune of having dinner with Richard and breakfast with Tom. Breakfast was pretty mellow and nice. We talked a lot about everything from Galactica to the electoral college. Tom seems very nice and constantly made sure that our needs were seen to. Dinner with Richard and his girlfriend (who is very sweet and cool) was "beyond awesome". I again need to thank him for the sake and the plum wine he brought me. Very kind. There was also a debacle with a fish head. Pictures and stories to follow!
~Dy
"Hurry up, you wussies!" - Richard to some of our dining party who could not keep up with us when he charged up 8 flights of stairs to the resturant.

Unfortunately I didn't get to meet you guys at Richards panel but I did make it out on Sunday. Met Herb and Richard, both very nice guys. My young children we fawning all over Lt. Boomer and he was shocked that young kids knew his character. Guess I'm raising them right. Richard was great too! What a genuinely nice guy. My kids fawned over him as Capt. Apollo and my 8 year old daughter asked him what it was like to work with daggets. He gracefully answered and explained about the chimps inside. Interestly side note, he made sure to point out to the kids that he was also Zarek in TNS. He too seemed surprised they all were excited to meet Apollo and not someone else. ;)
Also meet Marc Singer of "V" who was doing a signing and John de Lancie. Overall the Con was soooo crowded but a blast.

So seeing that Firefly fan booth at the con rekindled an old idea of mine. Would anyone be interested in trying to get a booth for the con next year? There seems to be a lack of Galactica stuff on the floor and I'd love to represent TOS and Tom DeSanto's project. We might even be able to get some people to do signings! We'd just need to take turns working the booth. Maybe we could sign up for two or three hour blocks at a time.
Seeing all of you at the con lit the proverbial fire under my rear! It was purely by chance too...I hadn't read the posts here before going to the Con!

This is a killer idea! Booths this year after early bird discount were $1200, but you could get a table for $700. There is also Wonder Con in San Francsisco earlier in the year, which is probably cheaper. If enough people are interested, maybe we could try to get a contribution thing going on via PayPal.

As a relative newcomer for Fleets, I was not sure what to expect when meeting, for the first time, those from Fleets that attended the Con. Though it didn't suprise me, I was struck at how well we all got along. Different personalities, backgrounds, locations of the country, etc. all brought together by a show we are profoundly moved and influenced by. It was, quite simply, awesome! I am honored and pleased to be a part of such a fine site as Fleets and to be associated with it's members. :salute: BlueSquad2001 was spot-on when told me when I first joined Fleets that he had found a home here. I would have to agree. :)

I agree Steve...meeting everyone was awesome and a breath of fresh air. It's cool to know that as different as any of us may be from the other, we can always relate from the get go on one topic...Battlestar!
I think that wondercon is a great idea. Comic Con is like taking a drink from a fire hose so it'll be nice to have some experience going into it. I think we can design and set up an awesome booth. We definitely need to set up some sort of donation fund for the two cons but I have no idea how to do that.
I would really love to promot the DeSanto continuation and spread the word to help get it made. We'lll have to see about getting some props to show off behind plexiglass.
I'd love to get hold of a Cylon statue of some sort of stand high above the booth for people to see from all around. We should also have the people at the booth in costume and maybe a Cylon to draw attention outside of the booth passing out flyers.
We could show the DVD's and the behind the scenes stuff as well.

Regarding WonderCon:
I am trying to find out pricing for a booth but that has not been announced yet. I probably don't have the space to put people up but I could up find cheap hotels and help with some of the transportation. Also, if anyone has anything to display or sell they could ship it to me and I could schlep it over to the Con.
I believe that the con will be the first weekend in March.

I walked around the area where WonderCon will be today. I used to work pretty much right there but never thought much about the logistics of the area. I think I could come up with good cheap options for lodging and transportation. Although it wont be right where the con is, but that is actually ok becase of how the area is layed out.

Hey KA,
How ya doin'? Wish you were here too....*sniff....sniff* :(
BTW, I had an idea. If this WonderCon idea comes about, we could persuade someone to burn off a good number of copies of Sandy's "Exodus" series CD's to hand out. (If that's allright with Sandy of course). With the CD and Gordon's replica kits, some decent size prints of the fan art at Fleets. Have a trailer of "Battlestar Galactica: The 14th Colony" running on a DVD player. See if any of the original cast would make any appearence(s), maybe Tom Desanto even? Display Michael's Desanto Viper? Anyone else's contributions I might have left off could be included. I think that would be SOOO cool! Whadaya thinks? :) Yes? No? Maybe? :D

I was thinking we needed to have some BSG stuff playing. We can run it off of my laptop onto a large monitor or two. I will see what I can come up with.

Fish heads, fish heads, rolly polly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up
Yumm!
Fish heads, fish heads, rolly polly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up
Yumm!
In the morning, laughing happy fish heads
In the evening, floating in the soup
Fish heads, fish heads, rolly polly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up
Yumm!
Ask a fish head anything you want to
They won't answer, they cant talk
Fish heads, fish heads, rolly polly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up
Yumm!
I took a fish head out to see a movie,
Didn't have to pay to get it in
Fish heads, fish heads, rolly polly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up
Yumm!
They can't play baseball, they don't wear sweaters
They're not good dancers, they don't play drums
Fish heads, fish heads, rolly polly fish heads
Fish heads, fish heads, eat them up
Yumm!
Rolly Polly fish heads are never seen drinking cappuccino in
Italian restaurants with Oriental women.
Yeeaahh

If you ask me, altogether too big a deal is being made out of the fish head. At this rate, it's going to turn into one of those things that people talk way too much about but in reality it's not that impressive... just like a misnamed show on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Hello Jewels,
WonderCon is in San Francisco CA and is essentially a scaled-down version of the San Diego Comic Con, about 1/4 the size (approximately, maybe less). Is that about right Dy? It's a three day event, March 2-4th 2007. :salute:

Oh, and the fish is not in a dumpster. I stole it from Mike's backback and am having it chromed as a hood ornament for my '67 Mustang. Now if I hit someone they can say that they were "fish-stanged"! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
:erk:
FYI - Brian says I look wierd in that picture. He is right but I think that "out of scale" sums it up better. :rotf:

Funny that you should mention "scale" in this conversation about a missing fishhead! :D

Alright.....there are some of you here, it would appear.....that are not taking this seriously! Stop it...right now! I'll have no more of this facade!
You all ought to be ashamed of yourselves. And you call yourselves warriors!

I agree. I'm hitting every dumpster in San Diego right now looking for that thing. Anyone remember what street it was tossed out on?

Search parties, that's the ticket. We'll blanket the area. You go North, I'll go South. We'll look high and low for this character. We'll search every dumpster, trashcan, landfill and transient parkbench this side of Yuma looking for it. (couldn't have gotten that far....with no legs and all!) :D

I told you guys, I have it. Don't make me drive over and fish-stang you.
Great! Now I have the classic Donovan song "Seasoning on the Fish" stuck in my head!
When I look over my shoulder,
What do you think I see?
Some other cat looking over
His shoulder at me
And he's strange, sure he's strange.
You've got to pick up every stitch,
You've got
to pick up every stitch,
Must be the seasoning on the
FISH!

That's too funny! But I have never heard that song before.
Upon seeing the pictures of the fish head, I was reminded of how gross it was, especially the crust over the eye. Maybe I should post a picture of it on my refrigerator as a diet aid/appetite suppressant. :P:
I'm used to CA time still, and also used to sleeping until 9:00 in CA, which is 11:00 here... I failed at getting up at 6:00 this morning for work. I think I'll take off half a day, or a whole day maybe. Would be nice to stay home and catch up on some rest, but if I do I will pay on Monday with all the extra work that will be waiting for me! This weekend I'll have to practice keeping the correct hours so I'll be more successful on Monday! :muffit:

The fish photos were, well, AO is justified in being grossed out.
Playing with the fishhead is just weird. Alcohol had to be involved, heavily involved. :rotf:

The sake was good. The plum wine was better.
The beer after was not so bad either. :)
Hope you are feeling better Terri. Those time changes can make you nuts.

Let's see.....Richard started me off with Sake, and Guiness beer, and then after a few of those, we finished with double Jagermiester shots! :naughty:
