Battlestar Galactica: The Exodus Episodes

Well, folks, it looks like another great project is in the works for old and new fans of Classic Battlestar Galactica. Inspired by OWD's "Return of a Hero", our favorite Two Brained Cylon, Russell "Sandy" Sanders has begun work on the next great Galactica story. Having read the premise behind it, I am fully intrigued, and if you are a fan of Classic Battlestar Galactica, then you will be intrigued as well.

Please check out this link to see just what it is Sandy has in store for us. The time to support good Classic Galactica storytelling is now.

Great things in the future, my friends!

Respectfully,

Having read the premise to this, the story sounds like it is the answer to many a Classic Battlestar Galactica fan's dream. For too long, since the outset of Ronald D. Moore's reimagining of Battlestar Galactica, many fans of the original show have been portrayed as being "stuck in the 70's", not wanting to see physical changes to the characters, special effects, or the story.

This project seeks to throw all that out the airlock like so much felgercarb. The story being proposed and presented in audio format will be the darker, edgier Battlestar Galactica that the original story premise called for, but will stay true to the source material, living proof that the original Battlestar Galactica can evolve beyond its perceived 1978-80 trappings without radically changing the core and spirit of the tale itself.

I like where this project is headed. It intends to focus on the strife within the Fleet...and not so much on the epic space battles (although I do hope there are a few planned). In an effort to show that truly epic stories of good vs. evil can still have a lasting impact...and is sought out by today's audiences. Tales told with truly noble heroes, and ruthless, clear cut villains, this seeks to espouse the spirit of the original Battlestar Galactica, with its messages of hope, and family as while fleeing the Cylon tyranny, the last Battlestar Galactica leads a Rag Tag Fugitive Fleet on a lonely quest. A shining planet known as Earth.

There is a lot of talent out there, both in writing, producing, and voice acting, and with such a pool of talent gathered around this particular project, this story promises to be a Battlestar Galactica audio series to remember.

The time to support Classic Battlestar Galactica storytelling is now!

Respectfully,
Martok2112

Def Leppard = Rock of ages off the pyromania CD. You know, I bought that when it came out. In the form of a tape because that was before CDs. I think it was 1983 and Highlander was in 86 so your right. I remember when highlander came out too so I do believe that dates me. lol

Sandy -

The synopsis is very intriguing....

Everytime I see the title "The Exodus Episodes", I had some small hope that the storyline would be completely original in regards to story and characters. From what I just read, it looks like that's the case.

I will be most eager to see this project released!

Best,

Bryan,

I wouldn't be all too quick to discount some old friends you haven't seen in 25+ years coming back in a big, big way.

Plus, the title is "Battlestar GALACTICA". When you've heard all 12 episodes, you'll see that the old girl and her crew is definitely the center focus along with what I think is a pretty good expansion of new characters and some pretty compelling situatons.

In a few circles there's been a lot of speculation as to what The Exodus Series will be like. Today I released a small preview so folks can listen for themselves and get an idea.

I welcome feedback.

Very interesting excerpt..........I liked the style of it, and look forwards to the completed product....

A few comments........

In the series we never saw (That I can remember) a Cylon holding both their gun and sword at the same time. Nothing to say it couldn't happen though.

Perhaps have the sound effects should overlap the descriptions of the event happening. Not to cause and interuption to the dialog, but at present the sound effects predictably follow the description of them happening.

Would the cylon now have a heat sensing eye to find the survivor with ? Would a technologically advanced robot have missed so many times ? I suppose this harks back to criticism of the series, and the Cylons were barely more than men in suits, as opposed to technically advanced robots. Form this excerpt I suspect you will keep it in line with the original, including its critised points ?

Maybe you consider this nitpicking more than feedback, and I can't say anthing less than I fully support you and wish you the best of luck.....

Ernie,

Interesting. I didn't intend for it to convey that the centurion was holding a rifle in one hand and sword in the other, just that he was armed with both.

I like the nitpicking. Keep it coming. Some of it may show up later in the show but I value all the valid nitpicks as possible since it only helps to improve things.

... same for some "Hey what about this ..." comments. They might be ignored but its always good to get them.

I couldn't stand it. I had to go back and rework the first track and the first half of the second track. I was never really happy with the first track and the narration on the first half of the second CD sounded like I was recording underwater. While I was at it, I adjusted the sound levels on all of the other tracks.

In other words, Exodus Episode 1 has been completely reworked. Its a completely different version than its previous incarnation. The end battle has a significantly different feel to it. For those who are keeping the series, you likely want to redownload all of the files. For those who are only getting the story once, don't bother, unless you want to hear how the first track has been revamped.

For the bandwidth challenged, if you're happy with the tracks you have, I'd only download the first two.

They can all be grabbed from here:

http://www.allgalactica.com/fan/exodus-downloads-001.html

Sorry for the bumps. I've got the sound thing down now and doubt we'll see this sort of thing in the future.

FWIW, I'm working away on Episode 2.

I'm a little confused on which part of which episode. Please can you post the direct links the the new versions ?

Then I'll update my site with those links so battlestarfanfilms.com has the definitive versions.

TwoBrainedCylon
April 7th, 2006, 09:09 AM
If you linked to the files themselves, they have the same names. If you've linked to the download page, it also has the same name. The links you've been using should still work.

Track 1 on CD#1 has been completely reworked -- totally new narration, about 50% more sound effects, better utilized, with about 1/2 of the old sound effects replaced. Music is still the same.

Track 2 had the first half completely replaced and the second half reworked to better match proper sound levels for burning onto CD.

All of the rest of the files have been adjusted so their sound levels match burning on CDs. If you're just llistening to them on an ipod or something along those lines, the result is that they all have the same sound level now. Previously, there was a variance. (The content for these later tracks is the same. Only the sound levels have been adjusted).

The Latest News Post from http://allgalactica.com/fan/exodus-news-001.html:

9 May 2006:

Episode 2 production is slowly moving along. The pace is below what we'd hoped for but the final product seems to be shaping up nicely. We've been getting inquiries for about three weeks now asking "Where is the next episode!?!!" Apologies to all who are anxious to hear the next chapter. We hope you'll find it was worth the wait.

We've also decided to press forward with development of the prequel series first mentioned on the Exodus Intro page in Dec 2005. After months of consideration, we opted to go ahead and develop two series simultaneously. Cylon.org's Peter Noble will be spearheading this effort.

AllGalactica.com has started a board to allow discussions of Exodus and the prequel series and allow listeners to better provide feedback for the production as well as discuss elements of the productions. The board is located at http://www.allgalactica.com/board/ .

Glad everyone seems to enjoy EP1.

Exodus has moved to The Fan Audio Society at www.FanAudio.com. All of the content previously contained at AllGalactica.com has been transferred there.

The FAS will serve as the hub for Fan Audio productions not only for Galactica but for many fanbases (hopefully all once it takes off). This will include any new series audio productions if any are made to include commentaries regarding the productions. With Bill Gordon's persmission, I am extracting some of the material from Radio IFB, combining it with some new material, and editing it into original series commentary for the site.

TBC,

I finally got around to listening to the last three tracks of Episode 1. It was pretty amazing. The music and audio effects are great, and your narration has improved greatly since the beginning. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

It's nice to see Lucifer's jealousy and how it hurts the cylons. It makes sense that when he says it's not enough to win, but how they win, you can see how the fleet has been able to survive in part. You'd think with the all the cylon forces available, they could take out the two remaning battlestars easily. But Lucifer in his efforts to become the next Imperious Leader has to wait and try to make the victory in a way to make himself look good. And if he can take out Spectre, then all the better.

TwoBrainedCylon

Mike,

Thanks. I intended this to be a setup for a broader storyline with Lucifer and Spectre that connected a lot of dots left unexplained in the original series.

Bill Gordon did a fantastic job with Lucifer. He really shined in that role.

I don't think I'd heard this in well over a decade. Found the files I still had while reorganizing all my Galactica material and gave both CDs a listen yesterday. A very well-done effort and it's too bad there weren't more installments that I can remember. I admit I fell out of the loop for a long while so if there ever were further installments I know I'd love to find them.
